Hello everyone
I've been super active in the Sparrow Race League and I currently am #3 (thanks Bungie for those random error messages I keep getting! I'd have 100 points more if those error messages never happened, each of them takes 10-15 Elo points away) on the Xbox One community Elo ranking on guardian.gg with a winstreak of over 200 (I'm not counting those error messages Bungie keeps giving me, preventing me to reach a higher rank). So yea, I pretty much know how the event is running, including Eververse.
Before I'm going to answer general questions, here's some experiences I had:
1. The event is totally worth playing! You drop helmets, that you'll likely never drop in the raid. Additionally you can get some class items leveling up your guardian too.
2. SRL may be fun with some friends to play, if you're going casually and not too addicted to the races.
Facts:
Correct me here in case I'm wrong, I'll fix those then. It should be pretty much accurate though.
Amanda Holiday
Rank 1 (1750 Reputation): Helmets and Class Items drop -300
Rank 2 (2750 Reputation): Helmets and Class Items drop 300-310
Rank 3 (4500 Reputation): Helmets and Class Items drop 310-320
Rank 4+ (8500 Reputation): No more increases except that you get a racer kit or a horn kit with a random legendary racing armour (Arms, Chest or Legs) or a horn.
Eververse
SRL Record Book, Vol. 1: You don't really get much from it. It's pretty much only a record book. Besides of the look of the armour, you can drop them in the event itself as rewards.
Sparrow Toolkit: Never bought one yet.
Custom Horn Kit: You gain a random legendary horn. The chance for getting the EV-43 Lightrunner is really low. I didn't get mine after 16 buys (to get all legendary horns).
Horns
There's 17 different types of horns:
Air Horn
Alert Horn
Antique Horn
Aquarian Horn
Basic Horn
Bike Horn
Cadence Horn
Chime Horn
Clarion Horn
Clown Horn
Duck Horn
Electric Horn
Flourish Horn
Fog Horn
Happy Horn
King's Horn
Odyssey Horn
You can possibly earn a legendary horn from your second or third character's S license quest reward or by simply buying one at Eververse. Dismantling a legendary horn (except Happy Horn) grants you a horn relay, to upgrade another rare horn to a legendary one. Horns can not be gotten again in the vehicles shop except the Happy Horn.
Reputation
The buff "SRL Champion" on your guardian's class item, dropped from SRL increases your overall reputation on Amanda Holiday gained by 15%. This includes bounties and quests.
Rank #1 in a race: 55 SRL reputation
Rank #2 in a race: 35 SRL reputation
Rank #3 in a race: 20 SRL reputation
Just participating and staying for the entire race (no matter the rank) grants you always 45 reputation.
Regular bounties give you 100 reputation. The weekly one gives you 500.
License Quest
By completing the S license on your first character, you get a random sparrow from SRL. By completing S rank on a 2nd or 3rd character, you get a Horn Kit or a Sparrow Kit again.
Sparrows
All sparrows are equally fast and only differ from their type (Standard, Trick and Overcharge). Overcharge however does boost your sparrow up quite a lot. Record times have been driven with it. Disadvantage is the low amount of fuel and it being extremely hard to control. As a casual player, you want to go with trick sparrows.
Instead of trying to explain how to run the maps, I'll just post links of my best runs. Venus is all about good landings whereas Mars has some curves you gotta deal with.

I'll add further information gained by the community or being asked, in case I can answer them.
Just ask if you have something you'd like to know.

How do I use my horn
-
Finally got a more or less solid run on Mars with the Overcharge Sparrow.

Looking for tips to get shimmer shader. I have only done major SRL on my Titan. I just started on it on like maybe Sunday. I'm almost to level 3. Is it better to start on my Warlock or keep grinding Titan once at Level 3. I know SRL started on the 8th but real life got in the way. So far I have 2 shaders phosphore & pink one.

What web site can I see my rank?
By completing S rank on a 2nd or 3rd character, you get a Horn Kit or a Sparrow Kit again.
Anyone get a 2nd/3rd sparrow kit yet?
-
It's cool having this info, so thank you. The thing is, what are the names of the overcharge sparrows? And how do you get them? (if there is multiple of them)
-
Where do you get an overcharge sparrow? All of mine are trick

Updated guide with 3 types of videos. A 4th one is coming up later. Currently Venus is holding a Trick Sparrow strat and an Overcharge Sparrow strat. The Overcharge Sparrow strat on Mars still has to be produced. And the one on Venus will be improved of course.
-
Thanks for taking the time with this. I'm rank 3. Pretty much got all I want out of it and see no point in grinding to get to 4 as there's really no benefits.
-
After this ends on the 29th, when will it start up again?
-
Updated guide with Venus video.
-
Updated post with Mars video (current Xbox One World Record).
-
I heard a rumor that if you hit rank 5 in the SRL you could get a 320 artifact. Is there any truth to that?
-
Updated the topic, overcharge sparrows are the new OP ones if you can deal with 'em.
-
Just updated the post with a slightly faster run on Infinite Descent (while racing against #1 on Xbox One).
-
Thanks Guardian!
why can't the forums have more stuff like this?
Edited by Dragon1711: 12/16/2015 6:40:33 PMGreat post with a wealth of information to help people put a leg into this event. I've noticed you up on the leaderboard for quite awhile now and would love to race you sometime if you're down for it (we're both on Xbox One, yay!). I find that it's more fun to play this event when you're able to have close races, fighting tooth and nail for first. Let me know if you're down sometime, LOG Commander!
-
Congratulations on your high rank! I hope you have fun when it comes back.
-
I haven't played much lately, but what little I've tried of the SRL has been entertaining. Glad to see some people are really enjoying it and just wanted to say thanks for the quality and useful post here on bungie.net. It's something that becomes rarer with each passing day...
...not that it was ever a utopia of good posts, but lately you have to actually search to find a decent post that has something useful and isn't just there to troll or be trolled.
-
Good post OP, a refreshing change to see on Bungie.
-
After this SRL ends, when will the next one start?
-
Here's my question: How can I identify which sparrow is overdrive, trick, or regular?
-
Do the armor perks effect gameplay noticeably?
-
What's your best time on Venus I ran it in 4:14 just wanna know how good that really is
Horns You can only make them legendary by buying one by Eververse and dismantling that one. The happy horn doesn't work. Once legendary you can NOT select them in the vehicles shop except the happy horn.
You can possibly earn a legendary horn from your second or third character's S license quest reward. My second character got a horn, but my third received Lightrunner.
