Well, to be fair the patch also fixed the leg engram issue and some other stuff.
2.1 fixed many issues, but some bugs can be pretty deep and connected to a lot of things. I'm a software developer myself and I know that bugs can be tricky. You have to be able to fix the issue without introducing a new bug somewhere else. A hot fix is just a quick fix to address an actual bug where something isn't working as intended. It's not like they can just sit down for a few hours and fix the entire game. It takes time and they have to wait for a big release to make a lot of sweeping changes. I think each release has been a step in the right direction. They're making it better slowly but surely.
I agree that they act quick when money is involved, but who wouldn't? They're a business and have stakeholders to worry about. Plus, I'm sure that people who bought the book appreciated it. It would suck to buy the book and see other people get the rewards for free.
I'm not a "desticle". Just speaking logic and common sense.
EDIT: I see that you edited your post and removed the Thorn example so I updated mine so that it makes sense. Hopefully it won't be edited again by the time I post this.
