SO yeah this is a thing.

Why sell a game once when you can sell it multiple times
-
First they get destiny on their timed exclusive list Then cod on their timed exclusive list Then preference of bf. With those three criminal syndicate games and now this? That doesn't sound good
-
My main concern is will be linear like XIII because no one liked that yes X was linear until you got the airship but still
-
Yeah I heard we still don't know how the hell they gonna price it or something I need more details
-
I think the total disaster that ffxv development has been was the main reason for the ff7 remake and the decision to go episodic. I doubt its even possible for xv to be profitable at this point, even if it ends up being amazing
-
Square is going to get every possible dollar they can from this "reimagining". Which I don't mind because each installment will be the length of a full game. My ONLY gripe so far is that the combat looks like the same shit system from 13 and 15, which are basically limp dick versions of the Kingdom Hearts system. Square is an RPG company, as much as I hate to say this, they can't do action, they just can't. The combat was the weakest aspect of both the Kingdom Hearts games as well as Crisis Core. Just give it up and go back to menu driven. Or at least lean on it harder, because the little bit of combat I saw took the piss right out of my Jim jams.

If they chop it up in three parts like the three original ones, and have the story progress acordingly to the original with the first episode ends where disc 1 does, and episode 2 when disc 2 does, I wouldn't mind about the whole chop shop thing.
Just want my chocobos!! And summoning!! And Gold Saucer!! Everything experienced in UE4 enviroment!!
I think you people are forgetting the actual scale of this game, he'll back when it was released it was on 3 discs because there was so much content. After almost 20 years we've come a long way, but to update all that content (or most of it) as well as needing to change it for the most part, is gonna take resources. I'm not surprised that's it's going to be more than 1 gane
-
Ok....so which episode will have chocobo racing?
-
Screw that. And it's not turned based. No thanks. Ill pick it up when all episodes have been released and I can get a good deal on it.
-
I'm guessing it will be 3 episodes. Just like the 3 discs that came with the original game. Episode one will end when you escape Midgar, episode two ends when Sephiroth makes the ultimate douche move, etc.
-
As a gaming experience, each entry will have the volume of content equal to a full-sized game.
I hope they stay true to this.

Edited by thefourfoldroot: 12/7/2015 8:54:29 AMA bad thing but it's quite obvious why they are doing it. They want to get it in people's hands fast and not cannibalise FFXV by releasing around the same time.
-
Well, they also said each part would be a full length game, so it's really not episodic
-
Edited by Alfsac: 12/8/2015 6:33:40 AMSooooo pirating it'll be, damned episodic scams.
-
Well that's kind of unfortunate. I don't want to play a game spread out across 3 years. I'm wondering how many episodes they'll release and what they'll cost, and if this will have negative effects on the story or gameplay.
-
I bet there will be 3 episodes, as the original game spanned 3 discs.
-
Kinda sounds like bad news to me. It looks so good....why episodic?
-
Don't know if it's good, really, episodic seens linear to me, what about when we reach open world like on episode 3, how will progression work from there, for example.
