The Legion's Keep
You spawn next to the Vex spire in The Legion's Keep. Ikora says "The Blind Legion has had multiple victories against the Vex even before the arrival of the empire. There's no telling how many Imperial soldiers are in the Black Garden." Your ghost informs you "I'm picking up heavy signatures of Vex technology inside the Keep. This must be where they're pouring into the Garden."
If you've ever noticed that mysterious blue door at the beginning of the bridge, you finally go into it in this mission. There are some Cabal enemies, so you'll have to fight them on your way to that door.
Once you get inside, there is a room with a Vex portal, and a bunch of Cabal soldiers. A centurion signals his troops, and they all charge inside. "We're gonna have to follow them." says your ghost, with a hint of redundancy.
The portal deactivates. Phalanxes run into the room. A colossus is standing on a Vex sync plate, turning it red. Your ghost says "The Cabal are trying to stall us from getting inside. We need to kill them if we want to go inside."
After you kill them and capture the sync plate, the portal re-activates and you can go into it.
The Black Garden
The portal in the Cabal room leads to the portal at the front of the Undying Mind room.
There are several Cabal, Vex, and Taken, all fighting each other. There are also some inferno mines. On top of the ledge which leads out of the Undying Mind room, there is an Imperial colossus. It is highly recommended that you take him out.
As soon as you get out of the Undying Mind room, Cayde says "Be careful out there, guardian. There's no telling what the empire can do if they get their hands on Vex tech. The Vex were a serious threat with their own technology, but at least they kept the place looking nice."
When you make it to the open area with the staircase, the Black Garden shakes for 2 seconds. "That.......does not sound good!" says your ghost with bewilderment.
When you get to the big room before the heart room, there will be a Minotaur boss named Kalithon, Protective Mind. Kalithon starts out at half health because he is fighting the Cabal. Your ghost says, "Wow. The Vex are really struggling to keep the empire at bay."
After you kill Kalithon, the door to the heart room opens. There are 3 ominous Cabal devices where the 3 Vex statues once were. On each device, there is a weird looking psion called a Forgemaster. As soon as you enter the room, the Forgemasters start to glow as they pump energy into the machine.
Then the Black Garden shakes violently, and the heart comes back to life. Your ghost says in astonishment "How did they just bring the heart back!?!?" Ikora Rey responds "It was never destroyed. It was sleeping, regaining its energy. This was too soon for plans of the Vex, but the Cabal only need a sliver of its power. The heart is weak, guardian! Destroy it before they steal all of its power!"
The Forgemasters absorb energy from the Black Heart, and they start to glow again. They hop off of their devices and begin to fight you. You have 1 minute to shoot the heart, or you automatically die.
Once you kill the heart, your next objective is to kill the Forgemasters. Once you kill one (or so you think), it splits up into 2 new Forgemasters at full health.
Lots of Cabal Harvesters (drop-ships) arrive, deploying lots of troops. Your ghost says "Uhh.....new plan: RUN!!!!"
You have 10 minutes to get out of the Black Garden. You have to run past lots of Taken, Vex, and Cabal. Once you get close to the entrance to Valley of the Kings, there will be a colossus named Val Tra'auk, guarding the entrance. His name is Val Tra'auk.
Valley of the Kings
As soon as you kill Val Tra'auk, you will get teleported to the Valley of the Kings. The sky is absolutely full of Imperial frigates.
Your ghost says with fear in his voice "Uh... guys? Look at this!" Zavala responds "Oh my god!!! This is far worse than we thought. So long as those frigates are there, there's no way of getting your ship out of there in one piece. And they're not going anywhere."
Your ghost says "I'm picking up a Cabal jamming device, but it's not on." Cayde responds "If we can figure out a way to use it against them, we can temporarily block their communications, allowing you to slip by undetected. Good luck, guardian. Godspeed."
After you scan the jammer, the mission ends. "Whew! That was close." says your ghost, with relief. Cayde adds "We couldn't stop them from retrieving what they came for, but at least you're still in one piece."
Cutscene
Eris, Cayde-6, Commander Zavala, and Ikora Rey have another meeting in the Tower. Commander Zavala says with concern in his voice "There are just too many of them. The Vanguard isn't strong enough to take out an entire fleet that size. We need help. We need a warmind." Ikora responds "Rasputin is still angry. He is only concerned with his own survival. We've sent several guardians in there, trying to restore him, and they were blown to smithereens. I highly doubt we'll get a different result. What do you think Cayde? .....Cayde?"
Cayde is sound asleep, snoring loudly with his mouth open. Eris's orb hits him square in the face. "WHAT THE!?!? Owwwwwwwwww!" He says as he rubs his face. Eris scolds Cayde "I have spent years in the depths of the Hellmouth without any sleep! And you... can't even stay awake for 5 minutes!!" The orb flies back into her hands, and she continues. "One of these days, when you are sleeping, and the darkness comes creeping ever closer, you will not wake up." Cayde responds with a tone "Good." Eris glares at him, then turns toward Zavala and Ikora, and says. "There are only 9 who are capable of restoring Rasputin. And they do not like visitors any more than he does."
Zavala replies "Then what other option is there? The Nine may be our only hope at this point." Ikora asks with concern "If we are to send one of our guardians all the way to Europa, then who?" An anonymous voice responds "I'll go." Everyone in the room turns around. Your guardian stands right outside of the room. Ikora says "Pardon me?" You respond as you walk into the room. "I'll go to Europa and talk to the Nine." Your ghost whispers "Are you crazy!?" Ikora asks "Are you sure about this?" Zavala says "The Nine are dangerous, guardian. And Europa has turned into a battleground between the Fallen and Cabal. I'm not sure if we're willing to send any guardians there."
Dialogue choices:
"The Cabal are getting more powerful as we speak. We have no other way of restoring Rasputin. Whoever they are, we need their help.": There is a brief moment of silence. Then Zavala says "Very well. We'll send you to Europa. I admire your bravery, guardian. But let's hope you haven't bitten off more than you can chew. Be careful out there." You respond "I will." The cutscene ends.
"Dangerous? Please. Danger is my middle name.": There is a brief moment of silence. "I like this guy." says Cayde as he nods his head. Then Zavala says "Not the kind of danger you're used to. You're making an awfully rash decision." Cayde says "Ah, come on! He'll be fine. Don't worry about it. Remember what he did in the Dreadnaught?" Eris interjects bitterly "You still have yet to replace my ship!" Zavala turns back toward you and says "Your performance in the Dreadnaught was impressive indeed. We'll send you to Europa. But let's hope you haven't bitten off more than you can chew. Be careful out there." You respond "I will." The cutscene ends.
