Alright, so I just got done reading through the December update in it's entirety. For the most part, if was what I expected. Sunbreakers are getting nerfed, challenge mode is a thing, and Tess Everis is going to sell her emotes in bundles that are not as "predictable" as buying them up front.
Wait, what was that last part again?
Before we go, here’s a final shopping tip: If you see something you like on the Eververse store – something you’ve been meaning to pick up any day now – this is a good time to grab it. The December Update will refresh the inventory available from Tess. She’ll put the stuff you see now in some bags you can still acquire with some Silver, but their contents will be less direct and predictable.
So basically what you're saying is that we'll still be giving you actual, real-life money for items, but we won't even be able to know what we're buying until after the transaction is complete. Is this seriously going to be a thing? Did Bungie see how well 343i did by selling REQ Packs in Halo 5, and now wants a piece for themselves?
Now, this could all just be a case of terribly unclear wording (which has happened before), and maybe the emotes come bundled together in groups instead (I.e.: emotions, sports, reactions, etc...), which I would honestly be fine with, as long as the price stays relatively low.
However, from the way it was worded, it totally sounds like after the update I could be handing Bungie anywhere from $5-$20 and getting the exact same emotes I've already acquired (or none at all), which is totally not okay.
Seriously though, if someone from Bungie could reply to this and let us all know what exactly is happening, that would be great.
As a Destiny fan since launch, and someone who has purchased emotes in the past (and would like to continue to do so going forwards), I would like to know the full details of how the new system will work before it is implemented, not after it's too late.
Best regards,
-Z
Edit:
After reading some replies, I have three new questions:
1: When buying these RNG Eververse packs, is there a possibility of getting duplicate emotes, or will they 100% be ones you don't already own?
2: Will there be new emotes available?
3: Will the refund system still be a thing?
Edit 2:
Just got off work, and wow, this is trending. Looks like a few more people than just me have the same questions. :P
That being said, the general consensus of commenters is that there will be new emotes come December, which will be directly purchasable, while only the old ones will become RNG. While it wasn't really mentioned in the update, I can find that pretty easy to believe, but until I hear directly from Bungie, I have no idea whether it's true or not.
Regardless of the theorised "new stock" at Eververse, the fact that the old Emotes seem to be going RNG is still far from ideal.
As one commenter put it:
I don't order a pizza HOPING to get the one I want. I order a pizza the way I want it. So with this RNG.. If I'm buying with real money, I want what I want... Not some random purchase. Just sayin..
Edit 3:
After reading even more comments, someone has brought up the possibility of the old emotes working like the Eva Levante's emblems and shaders, which are directly purchasable, but change from time to time. While this is better than "bags" (whatever that means), the current system works just fine, so I fail to see why they couldn't just add another page to the Eververse store, similar to how the vault and kiosks work.
Unless we get detailed feedback from Bungie saying otherwise, we're forced to assume that the old emotes will be sold in bags similar to the Festival Of The Lost loot bags, but only for actual money, which really doesn't make me feel any better about this.
Edit 4:
So another day has gone by, and guess what? We have sparrow racing! Isn't that great? They even announced the microtransactions already!
Prepare your wallets guardians, looks like we're in for another Festival Of The Lost style event, complete with limited-time gear that provides no benefit, is most likely RNG-based, and therfore costs more than the game itself to acquire one item you really want, if you're lucky.
I'm honestly done trying to get a reply at this point, so this will be my final edit. My only advice to you is to spread the word, and whatever you do, don't buy any RNG microtransactions from Tess. Maybe if we make our opinion known with our wallets, the RNG element will cease being a thing.
Probably not, but we can hope, right?

I better buy my Carlton dance and slow clap quick then!

*bungie hints at rng packages for gifts* *everyone blames them for being greedy instead of leaving the damn game and forums like someone who would actually give a damn about enforcing their point*

OMG HOW DARE YOU BUNGIE MAKING ME SPEND MONEY ON SILVER!?!?!?! Oh wait....its optional and cosmetic? Oh....well I guess my outrage was absurd.......
-
Edited by Thane: 12/4/2015 3:15:50 AMGambling with actual money for virtual masks and now Emotes ...... Good stuff.

Edited by LordofChaos: 12/4/2015 1:25:19 AMThis is not the first game to do this you know nor will it be the last no matter if you do not like it either. Actually 343 seen how it worked in ME3 and implemented it to their game. go play me3-mp and it does the same thing. yes there will be a chance of duplicates. maybe there will be new ones probably not or at least will be for the full bag and not just individual ones to prevent abusing it.
-
That's gonna be for old emotes. It's like a legacy engram, but for emotes, and you can direct buy all the new ones.
-
The only time I have spent money on silver was when I was drunk. Literally - I had a few beverages and what rationality I had left departed. I have a blue skull thingy which I wore once and then placed in my vault. While this could be another in a lengthy line of inept statements from Bungie's representatives, It seems to have that stunning lack of self awareness that often accompanies many of Bungie's actual decisions. If it is another way to gamble away our cash I will need to be a whole lot drunker. I have gambled on two DLC packs and the "Expansion" that has reduced variety in an unprecedented way. I am becoming less inclined to such risks each passing week.

I would love some answers as well
-
I'm guessing there will be new ones, and the old ones will be separate in a random drop
-
im thinking it will be RNG bundles of emotes, but only of the ones currently available, and at a better price, while a brand-new inventory will be brought in too, being available for purchase exactly how the ones available now are. so my prediction is: old stuff will be in discount bundles, while new stuff will be selectively purchasable. just my prediction though, so only bungie knows for sure.

Notice they did use the word 'Titanic' when describing this update... Yep, a sinking ship...
-
I seriously, seriously, hope it's not like that. *Spends 50 bucks on Silver and starts buying packs* "Thriller, have it... Thriller... Thriller... -blam!-ing another goddamn Thriller... YAY CARLTON... Thriller... Thriller..."
-
Step right up! Step right up! Test your luck, only $5 a toss. Loosest RNG this side of the European Dead Zone.
Tess is not responsible for repeat drops. No refunds.
-
Who cares? It will get the kids to spend more of mommy and daddies money to get their stupid emotes, which will in turn give bungie more money which means more work on the game sounds like a win to me
-
The only way they can make this work is if the emotes held a value afterwards. Kinda like what Fifa does with its player cards (don't know too much about that I'm not a Fifa player). What I do know is that if you open a pack which you could buy with real money you can atleast sell the unwanted/repeated player off. With these emotes they won't, valueless the second you own it. The could fix this with not allowing repeats but then again there aren't that many emotes so wont take long to have got them all and kinda makes the not knowing what you are getting thing pointless.
-
Wow... Almost like some Christmas presents...
-
That's why I can't wait for the next expansion! So I can leave this addiction!
-
They've basically seen what 343i have done with Rec packs, seen the money that it is generating and decided to follow suit, completely missing the fact that the rec system is built around the cards and they can be earned without spending any real money. Bungie (or Activision) likely just went "ZOMG teh monies! Look at teh monies!" and soiled themselves.
-
Called it. More cash to line their pockets. They saw how all these morons were spending hundreds trying to get the Skull Mask and just acted on it.
-
Let's all boycott everse until it's not more rng crap
-
Sounds like something they'd do.
-
Judging from the quote from the update you put in your post it seems that there will be new emotes to buy seperatly, but the ones on sale right now will be bundled up in RNG bags. So if you just want new ones without risk of getting duplicates, then don't buy the bags and just buy the new ones. At least that's how I read it.
-
Wow. I clicked this post expecting it to be a simple unsophisticated angry mess, but I was ecstatic to find out that the OP is a perfect example of a genuine lover of this game. Thanks for keeping it real man. <3
-
Yeah Bungie is full of shit again. I'm guessing its going to be RNG for the ones you don't have because I doubt they'll make us repay for ones we already own, like each package drops one we already don't have. Then again it's possible Bungie will fûck us with that too.
-
Yep, be ready to get that Carlton. Over and Over and Over and Over and 50 bucks later..... oooo a thriller!
-
Btw, I never even spent my free silver. Seriously, I still have it.
