Alright, so I just got done reading through the December update in it's entirety. For the most part, if was what I expected. Sunbreakers are getting nerfed, challenge mode is a thing, and Tess Everis is going to sell her emotes in bundles that are not as "predictable" as buying them up front.
Wait, what was that last part again?
Before we go, here’s a final shopping tip: If you see something you like on the Eververse store – something you’ve been meaning to pick up any day now – this is a good time to grab it. The December Update will refresh the inventory available from Tess. She’ll put the stuff you see now in some bags you can still acquire with some Silver, but their contents will be less direct and predictable.
So basically what you're saying is that we'll still be giving you actual, real-life money for items, but we won't even be able to know what we're buying until after the transaction is complete. Is this seriously going to be a thing? Did Bungie see how well 343i did by selling REQ Packs in Halo 5, and now wants a piece for themselves?
Now, this could all just be a case of terribly unclear wording (which has happened before), and maybe the emotes come bundled together in groups instead (I.e.: emotions, sports, reactions, etc...), which I would honestly be fine with, as long as the price stays relatively low.
However, from the way it was worded, it totally sounds like after the update I could be handing Bungie anywhere from $5-$20 and getting the exact same emotes I've already acquired (or none at all), which is totally not okay.
Seriously though, if someone from Bungie could reply to this and let us all know what exactly is happening, that would be great.
As a Destiny fan since launch, and someone who has purchased emotes in the past (and would like to continue to do so going forwards), I would like to know the full details of how the new system will work before it is implemented, not after it's too late.
Best regards,
-Z
Edit:
After reading some replies, I have three new questions:
1: When buying these RNG Eververse packs, is there a possibility of getting duplicate emotes, or will they 100% be ones you don't already own?
2: Will there be new emotes available?
3: Will the refund system still be a thing?
Edit 2:
Just got off work, and wow, this is trending. Looks like a few more people than just me have the same questions. :P
That being said, the general consensus of commenters is that there will be new emotes come December, which will be directly purchasable, while only the old ones will become RNG. While it wasn't really mentioned in the update, I can find that pretty easy to believe, but until I hear directly from Bungie, I have no idea whether it's true or not.
Regardless of the theorised "new stock" at Eververse, the fact that the old Emotes seem to be going RNG is still far from ideal.
As one commenter put it:
I don't order a pizza HOPING to get the one I want. I order a pizza the way I want it. So with this RNG.. If I'm buying with real money, I want what I want... Not some random purchase. Just sayin..
Edit 3:
After reading even more comments, someone has brought up the possibility of the old emotes working like the Eva Levante's emblems and shaders, which are directly purchasable, but change from time to time. While this is better than "bags" (whatever that means), the current system works just fine, so I fail to see why they couldn't just add another page to the Eververse store, similar to how the vault and kiosks work.
Unless we get detailed feedback from Bungie saying otherwise, we're forced to assume that the old emotes will be sold in bags similar to the Festival Of The Lost loot bags, but only for actual money, which really doesn't make me feel any better about this.
Edit 4:
So another day has gone by, and guess what? We have sparrow racing! Isn't that great? They even announced the microtransactions already!
Prepare your wallets guardians, looks like we're in for another Festival Of The Lost style event, complete with limited-time gear that provides no benefit, is most likely RNG-based, and therfore costs more than the game itself to acquire one item you really want, if you're lucky.
I'm honestly done trying to get a reply at this point, so this will be my final edit. My only advice to you is to spread the word, and whatever you do, don't buy any RNG microtransactions from Tess. Maybe if we make our opinion known with our wallets, the RNG element will cease being a thing.
Probably not, but we can hope, right?

Good questions there. Theres no reason they can't just add to the list and keep all available, this is just a slimey way of making extra money and its not cool.
-
If you played call of duty advanced warfare... Good for you if you didnt, but they had these advanced supply drop things they sold for real money. What was in them was totally random. It guaranteed a certain level of weapon based on the money you were paying, but could be duplicates of stuff you have gotten before. This sounds similar, and just as much bs. Whoever came up with this random shit is just insane.

Even though i could never be convinced to buy an emote, i hope this isn't happening for those that do. It'd turn them into a even worse way of spending your money, which i didn't think possible even for bungie.
-
It sounds a lot like the Festival mystery bags, which Bungie got lambasted for.
-
The way I'm assuming it'll happen: Buy the emote normally. Know what you're getting. Say the 200 silver ones. Then the random ones, say an example: 300 silver buy a random rolled emote. Could be a 500 one, or a 200 one. Could be better or worse.
-
Everyone asked for more RNG and Bungie listened.
-
Bungie are really good at copying things.... i mean.... Destiny is a complete copy of halo, even the traveler is copied from Halo 4, the didact's evil ball ship. the original pot was the traveler turned out to be evil all along.... Of course they'd copy REQ
-
Is it not possible it simply means that Tess's stock will vary every day, like Eva's or every three days like Amanda's? Same total stock just a limited number available at a time. You could spend a week waiting for that one emote you wanted to appear? I spent three months checking Eva everyday for the Winterborn Mark emblem! It was the last one i needed. Then it appears twice in three days. That could be what it means by 'less direct and predictable'. Remember the subclass emblem fuss when everyone said the emblems weren't dropping after completing the PVE quest, not realising there was a PVP quest coming? Its probably not as bad as you think. Bungie drip feeding deliberately obscure information doesn't help.
-
Halo 5 and Garden Warfare use that random rewards sistem por packages BUT, in those game you can buy them with ingame money you get, and with real money What bungie is doing here is a total rip off and obly shows how greedy those bastards are
-
Yay new emotes :D
-
Sounds more to me like they'll be more like the Gunsmith. You'll get to see whats to buy, but what She has is gonna be randomized. Might have to wait 6 months before she sells "GRIEVE" emote, and deal with her selling "slow clap" every week that whole time
-
They're creating a panic now to make people buy them while they can still choose.
-
It sounds like they are just shoving the current emotes into grab bags and making space for new ones. Like buying yr. 2 stuff from Xur or getting a Legacy engram.
-
Yeah, no thanks. That's absurd. And it's sad that that's becoming a standard as many have pointed out. EA did it right, offering 20+ emotes as unlockables through in-game currency. And the best part...you can assign them to more than one button (gasp)!
-
this isnt an i-phone game. please stop trying to turn it into one. this sounds like that stupid ass jurassic park card game where you spend $20 hoping to get something useful. my nephews watch youtube videos of people playing that game spending hundreds of dollars on opening packs. see, that last sentence is why gaming sucks. because those are things people actually do. pay to win games and people subscribing to watch other people play pay to win games.

Edited by Tate Diabeetus: 12/4/2015 11:31:22 AMHere's what I want to happen: You buy a bag which contains about 3 emotes. The bag will cost about the price of 2 rare emotes. You will be guaranteed emotes you don't have and have a chance at legendary emotes. You can get all emotes from these bags including the festival of light emotes and the worship emote. Also adding the refer a friend emotes would be cool as well. Finally if you buy a bag and only have 1-2 emotes left to get you will get some silver back as compensation. Once you have bought all emotes you will no longer be able to buy the bag till there is new emotes. Also I just forgot but you can return any emote you don't want with the 15 minute return feature.
-
You can't rebuy an emote, I imagine it's the same with that. You just can't buy it directly, and really if you didn't buy it already... you're not going to.
-
Edited by Cjdaw: 12/4/2015 2:48:06 PMI didn't read all the replies so I'm not sure this has been stated yet. My apologizes if it has. The update states that the items that are for sale NOW are going to be in those bags. My guess is that we will have a new set of emotes and a "Legacy Emote Pack" or something that is the price of three and has three random emotes in it. Don't get all cra-cra until we see the update.
Maybe they will bring us the worm emote and we can worm bag newbs in the crucible.
Edited by The 7th fall: 12/4/2015 2:34:52 PM... really Bungie, you just can't leave RNG out of one f**king aspect of the game, just one??!! Ugh, I could go spend money on legendary or rare RNG crates in Defiance but know that I'll at least get something good or great out of the deal... but Durpstiny doing RNG with f**king emotes??!! Asinine, just asinine. I myself haven't bought any emotes, nor ever will, but this is just obscene... I don't even wanna know what they'd do for different packages in the future.
-
Edited by belltold12: 12/5/2015 9:01:08 PMThe way I interpret this is her current inventory is getting replaced. Instead of making them unobtainable (like zombie dance) they will be in rng bags. I doubt they will be grouped by category, more likely 2, 5, 8, or some such model. Don't want to risk RNG for emotes? Then heed his words and buy the ones you want now. Personally I don't understand why they just can't rotate like Eva Levante's emblem inventory.
-
For the Tess everis, putting these in packages, then new ones come out, that sounds good to me. I think having a rotating stock would work too but that doesn't make as much money
-
What the hell are they doing.

Brilliant Bungie decisions makers at it again
-
makes u wonder who makes all the stupid decisions at bungie. who hired this clown and why is he still there? or is it a committee of clowns who all need to be, err, "reassigned".
