Boot camp - Not extremely difficult, it just sucks. You get built up physically, but it's pretty stressful mentally. There is 0 recreation and you will never get time alone. Your patience will be tested to extreme levels, and DI's will play mind games with you all -blam!-ing day.
School of Infantry - no sleep, MRE'S every meal, constantly getting -blam!-ed with by combat instructors, classes at 0500, putting hundred of rounds down range a week, lots and lots of hiking. Expect to be awake about 20-22 hours a day. You can rest up and recover on weekends though.
To try out to be a Scout sniper you have to graduate recruit training, graduate from the Infantry Training Battalion at SOI, then be accepted into the school. You are not guaranteed to pass once you're accepted, I didn't do it but that training looked like a horrible -blam!-ing time, not to mention the skill needed to pass your marksmanship tests.
