Snipers:
The weapon aims for you
ADS stability on par with shooting a weapon while prone with a tripod.
Accurate under fire.
Shotgun:
Requires you to be close enough to spit on your opponent to kill.
Requires a tactical mindset combining the elements of cover & maneuver to close within kill range without getting gunned down.
Tl;dr To be successful with a sniper you need average reaction time for the trigger pull (That's it!). To be successful with a shotgun you need situational awareness, good use of cover, and some balls.
Edit: Sorry for stealing all your comments OP!!
Edit 2: The salt is strong
Edit 3: Had fun pooping on you 1000 yard stare punks yesterday on Anomaly & will resume washing my rear with your tears in a few hours.
Edit 4: Slapped on a sniper Tao Hua Yuan (Wildhawk SLS20/Aim Assist 11?), performed .65 k/d better than average.
But its not easy sitting out of primary range
/Sarcasm
Surely I'm just some shotgun scrub that has no idea what he's talking about...

I agree with the shotgun part not the sniper part
-
No, you're just a little shithead.

i have no idea what point you're trying to make with these links. i'm assuming you sniped on those matches and are trying to say it is easy mode, or something. kid, you played 6v6, and rift at that. all you do is sit in the back and snipe the rift, or push up and spawn trap. you literally chose the most non-credible game mode for any sort of fact finding. you have absolutely no understanding of how aim assist works in destiny. if you want to complain about something, complain about hitboxes, because aim assist has absolutely nothing to do with hitboxes. the fact that you said that it is easy to hit snipes under fire shows that you are either completely retarded, or just don't snipe very often. i could give you a laundry list of reasons why shotguns are without question, beyond debate, the easiest playstyle in this game, but that would be unnecessary. tbh, the data speaks for itself. what data? the data that is used in determinations for weapon balancing. you can say that shotguns have been nerfed, and are getting nerfed again because of whining, but you would be REALLY wrong. they don't care what we say. they only care about data. the data suggests that the overwhelming majority of people use shotguns, regardless of nerfs. why? because the movement mechanics, map design, and effectiveness of shotguns surpasses every other weapon in the game. you can't argue with facts. data are facts
-
Well said.
-
Agree totally
-
Did you just say accurate under fire? I hope thats a joke.

They are and shotguns require more skill and here's a nice fact top snipers say to shotguns use your primary when they don't use one they use the last word a spamming gun if they get a body shot. It's easy to snipe just sit in back aim at head level then pull a trigger. Shotguns require you to be able to hug them and after this patch when you get killed by a shotgun you will say that person is skillful because the range nerf, the damage nerf, the movement speed(which is what a shotgun needs to close the gap) nerf, the handling nerf, and the swap times nerf. What's changing to snipers to make this more balanced nothing, nothing at all. Then you snipers are going to complain to bungie that fusion rifles are op just because you suck so much that you can't snipe. All sniping is head level o crap I missed… oh wait never mind good thing my 1000 yard stare hit that headshot even though I missed.
-
With the meta being pulse rifles they're fairly accurate because the burst fire typically allows the reticle to fall back down to head level if you had it preset. Or enough distance and the reticle barely moves. So I can see why he made that statement. Been head shot quite a few times after landing 2 full burst with a high rof pulse and to be honest that is friggen annoying. I run snipe all day and I've done that to people as well. Autos are by far the worst things to aim against. I remember sniping when autos were still good and the view kick is worse then pulse rifles. For some reason pulses have just enough pause to land a snipe semi consistently whole being shot at.

This post is so true. Shotguns take more effort, but both are easy as hell in this game.
-
I know that this is out of context...but could you use your No Land Beyond a little bit? At least give it a try! He might be sad sitting in the vault with 0 kills...
-
I do think using a shotgun takes some skill, but you're acting like it's really hard to use a shotgun and you just have to scope in with a sniper to get a headshot.
-
No he's saying it takes a lot of skill to use a shotgun effectively and well. Both have the easy camp styles of play but I'd have to agree that shotgun takes way more movement awareness and quick reflex to use. All depends on style of play though.

Edited by Wernstrom: 12/1/2015 6:11:26 PMThank you for laying it out for the mediocre sniper bandwagoners who think they're something special. I've always been a sniper, and a good one at that, but since TTK came out I've been learning shotguns. It certainly does take skill to do both, just different types of skills. However, AA doesn't make bad snipers good. And it doesn't contribute as much as some would think.

I like this guy. To you, I give the onyx seal of approval. Now go pop some heads.
-
I have a 1000 state with hidden hand.... When I shoot at the ground I get a kill every time cuz u know that's how aim assist works
-
Funny considering whenever I slap on an invective I go flawless or have a 3.0+ KD And I never use shot guns me and you are opposites.. Shot gunning is really really easy
-
I always snipe. Always. But this week in trials only on my Titan I decided to go mega -blam!- and used a shotgun. All 3 of us slapped on shot guns and it was an easy 9-0. The closest we got to losing was 5-2. It's insane how easy mode invective is.
-
Pretty much the same story with me tried invective for once and went 9-0 with two Finnish guys that didn't even speak English I even won a full 2v3 game when one team mate ditched shotgunning is really easy
-
Only thing i c is you know how to camp in the rift. Which is the easiest game mode for a sniper in my opinion. Because every moron can walk around the rift spot and snipe some people. Second this doesnt prove anything. It only proves your play style in the rift fits a sniper riffle. Third saying that a shotgun takes more skills only says your not to be taken serious. Almost every newcomer takes a shotgun. Why ? Its easier to use. Especially with the range some shotguns have in this game. Yes, other games have higher range shotties but a much lower ttk. Everyone can run up to a guy and shot, melee him. Not everyone can snipe. So its a easy calculation.
-
Amen brother.
-
Haha you went in on this post my friend, good shit
-
Thank you for providing evidence on this whole sniper topic. I can't believe people still can say it takes skill to snipe in this game. I don't even snipe in PvP because it feels so unbelievably cheap to me. Keep up the good work and educate some of these chumps!

Wrong kid the sniper doesn't aim for you
