Thirteen years ago, a hunter was born into the Light.
"Hello, guardian. You haven't been dead for too long so no need for catching up. I am your ghost, Crede. Get your gear together and let's go!" The tan shelled ghost spoke softly but worried.
"Ugh. I'm good, I'm good. Where are my hand cannons?" the hunter blade dancer named Jared Barnes sat up and patted the dust-like-dirt for his two hand cannons. "I got 'em! Let's go!" he yelled shortly afterwards.
Jared and Crede got to the Tower pretty quickly thanks to a combination of a sparrow and a secret back gate Jared knew of. Jared was a book worm, his two favorite topics were Toland and the Hive, and Osiris and the Vex. He tried finding every bit of information on those exiled warlocks. In both cases, the warlocks searched for new ways to fight the Darkness, but Jared had a new theory.
Two years in the future, a new theory arises.
After completing almost three months worth of research on different aliens and their experience of this war, Jared now believed the Traveler was the destroyer of worlds... and we were harboring it! Instead of fighting the wars he was asked to, Jared began searching for artifacts, documents, ancient treasures, anything to prove we were fighting the wrong fight!
Jared was getting the slight feeling that the Speaker was on to him. What he did was drastic! He took Crede, his ghost, into his room and dismantled him. He tampered with the inner workings of Crede so that the high ghost, Eli, could not track what had happened. A warrior of Light without a ghost! He was forced to live like any hunter knew best! If a hunter screwed up, they were punished.
Five days ago, a fire team goes looking for the rogue hunter
Jared was searching the Hive chambers on the moon. Once again, searching for any signs of what the Traveler really was. He had just destroyed the Shrine of Oryx and now was looking for clues in the surrounding area. His only piece of evidence was a Hive tomb husk. He collected these just in case they hid some secrets. With no other clues, Jared carried the tomb husk out of the temple.
Inside one of the tunnels, Jared was cut off by a warlock and two titans.
"Jared Barnes, you are under arrest!" shouted the warlock with her weapon raised.
"Arrested? I haven't committed any crimes." at first, Jared had his arms up, but then tried to scooch his way past.
At this point, the three guardians opened fire! Jared jumped back and pulled out his two stainless steel hand cannons, Truth and Seeker! He quickly loaded six bullets into each titan, dropping them fast! With no time to reload, he holstered his hand cannons and pulled out the tomb husk. He jabbed the mass of pure Darkness into the gut of the warlock, killing her instantly.
Present day.
A bright light was pointed at Jared as he sat at a table, handcuffed.
"You have been accused of the murder of three guardians, Jared!" shouted a man invisible due to the bright light.
"Self defense. Two titans and a warlock approached me, tried to kill me, because of my religious belief." Jared answered quickly as he looked away.
"What religious belief has led to such violence, guardian?" the figure spoke softly.
"Don't call me a guardian." Jared kept his head low.
"Why not? Guardians protect the City as well as reclaim lost worlds."
"Guardians are mindless zombies enslaved by that orb you call a god! I do not except it!" Jared slammed his hand on the table.
"What do you not except?" asked the mysterious figure.
"That I must bow down, owe my life, to a piece of space debris!" Jared slammed his hand on the table again.
"You call the Traveler space debris, yet he gave you new life!" The Speaker leaned into the light revealing himself.
"What makes that a wise choice? Unless he wants an antagonist in this story... this life. I maybe born in Light, given the ferocity of a blade dancer, but I do not except my fate being tied to that!"
"Why turn away from that which gives you purpose?"
"Because, our purpose has been to gun down our 'enemy' while they pray to their gods. Before I rebelled, I was asked to destroy the Shrine of Oryx, kill his worshippers. Why? Because I was told too."
"They have done the same to us."
"The Hive and the Traveler have a history, I'm sure. What about the Vex? We killed Atheon for what reason?"
"Atheon had the mindset and the capability to bend reality to their liking."
"What would Vex go back in time to change?"
"They could have kept the Traveler from saving us from certain death!"
"Is that the truth?! Or is that what you have been told?... forced to believe? What if the Traveler brought the Darkness to us? I mean, the Eliksni followed it here."
"You think the Traveler is the Darkness? That it will betray us, kill us? So, you will kill to prove your point?" The Speaker propped his hands on the table.
"I seek the truth, Speaker. I won't kill to prove my point, but I sure as h*** will kill to save my a**!" Jared leaned against the table, then leaned back into the chair.
"I believe we are through here."
"Speaker! I'm not finished."
"What else would you like to say, Jared?"
"Why did you interrogate me?"
"I am the highest council member."
"And Speaker of the Traveler. This talk could be a little one sided against me. How do I know you are not hiding something from us?"
"Who would you prefer? Cayde-6?"
Oh, no. Cayde might make it biased in my favor. I don't want that. What about Zavala or Ikora? Ikora's wise."
The Speaker, never answering, left the room leaving Jared in the dark.
Okay guardians! This is your choice. Is Jared right? Is the Traveler something darker and the Speaker covering it up? Or is Jared way over his head? Thank you so much for reading and let me know in the comments.
