An Honest Opinion on Star Wars Batflefront

Preface Hello Community! Today we will discuss the much hyped Star Wars battlefront and an analysis of the pros and cons of the game. As always, I'm happy to discuss my opinions/review with any of you so as long as you show respect and some level of comprehension. The Good •It feels like Star Wars -If you were worried about a Battlefield reskin, let me tell you this is not it. Dice nails the feeling of being in the Star Wars universe wonderfully. Every sound, every crackle, just everything feels like Star Wars •It feels like large scale warfare -Dice really engages the user into feeling that they are truly part of a bigger war. Enemies and allies seem to be fighting on just about everywhere you turn. The skies can be seen exploding with arial combat, grenades and blaster fire can be seen though out the battle. It's really a nice addition. •The Sounds -Often something overlooked in games, the sound in Star Wars battlefront was so that I noticed it. Every blaster fire, every boost in your ship, every swing of your lightsaber has a distinct sound that is amazing. •Attention to detail -Little things like the dirt getting on your storm stroopers armor on Sullest or the strange language on the inside of one of the sniper scopes, DICE really put some emphasis on detail that only the sharp eyes will catch. •Well designed maps -These maps not only look amazing, but are well designed for competitive purposes. Flanking routes are present as well as a direct on view. Cover is cleverly placed in areas that would otherwise be open, DICE experience is shown here. •Customization -Although extremely limited, any customization is welcomed in a shooter. More on that later. •Power ups -Believe it or not, I'm much more in favor of the power up system in place of something like scorestrekas. I would have preferred vehicles be in their normal position but I'm not upset that they are power ups instead. •Good Time to Kill -The time to kill is something that I stress in shooter of being a in sweet spot that allows for quick kills when caught off guard and long enough to provide outplay-ability. Thankfully, Star Wars Battlefront finds a nice spot in this department. Neither too fast nor too slow. While some guns will destroy you at CoD levels at close range, the majority of gunfights will be exactly that, gunfights. •Fighter gameplay -It didn't take me long to fall in love with this mode here. When flying in the fighter, you feel like you are really in the universe. The controls feel good, your ship feels light and the combat is smooth. Love this game mode. •3rd person -I love 3rd person and I love that DICE decided to stay true to the original series in that respects. I wish more shooters would add in a 3rd person view, what's the point of coutimizting your character if you never see him. The Bad •Lasers move too slow -Lasers in the game move too slow to engage in gunfights slightly behind medium range with much success. This is especially evident when using any blaster or rifle. They simply move too slow. •The Empire is vastly overpowered -Yes, I'm aware that in the real universe, the empire had the edge. But for the sake of multiplayer, I think there should have a been an AT-ST equivalent or have made rockets do more damage to it. •Sniping sucks -When I'm using my sniper at long distances like its suppose to do, I run into a previously mentioned problem, the bullets move to slow. I have to aim for an idle target to have a chance to get the kill. Please, speed up the sniper travel time exponentially. Also, some sniper shots where it seem like they hit, don't. •Lack of Deep customization -The rebels were far from uniform troopers. It would have been nice to customize different gear and sashes my player wears. As for the empire, certain legions of Stormtroopers did have different designs on their helmet and armor along with different coloring. This is usually with higher ranking soldiers so it fits in perfect with the progression system. •Star Cards -I don't know what DICE was thinking when they put Star Cards in the game. I'm sure I'm not the only one would would have preferred simply to have loadouts to customize. Attachments on weapons as well as gear would have been better here. •Very few weapon choice -There's 11 primary weapons in the game with three different archetypes, far too few for a game of this stature. •No aim down sights -Now, I understand that the Original battlefronts didn't have ADS, but with its popularity, those familiar who rather 1st person would have appreciate ADS for accuracy. This also give both views an advantage over the other. •Lack of a Campaign -There is simply too much lore in the Star Wars universe to not go without some sort of campaign in a Star Wars game. And after hours of gameplay, I found myself asking for some sort of campaign. Even if it was as simple as the original's or even better a traditional 10 hour, with cutscenes and such. •Lack of options -Where they add different faces, there is a lack of them. While their are a number of weapons, there's not enough. While Fighter Squadron is cool, it lacks vehicle variety. There is just a lack of options all the way around. •No Clone Wars -In my opinion, again my opinion, there is a far better story to tell from a militaristic side in the clone wars than the Galactic Civil War. And while I wouldn't have a battlefront game with one without the other, I feel that it would have doubled the content size. Conclusion This game feels like more of the Star Wars Battlefront Beta than an actual Battlefront game. Not to say that it isn't good, because there are no real complaints besides a lack of content. If you are a Star Wars or battlefront fan, I can suggest this game to you with a clear conscience. However, if you are neither, I can't suggest picking this up for retail price. I'd wait til it goes down a bit.
