So it whenever it says my Dog found something, how do I get that "something"? Also when will my dogs name get changed to Dogmeat, cause right now its just Dog.

To change his name to dogmeat either speak a bit with mama murphy or just do the main story. I wont spoil but you'll have a dialoge option to use dogmeat: after that he's called dogmeat
