First for golg we talked horseshoe and single orb. Hawaiian took the time to show us how he does single orb. I always ran horseshoe because there was thoughts that bungie would make it so you would need to juggle gaze. We know now that didn't happen. It took us two attempts and just over four orbs to kill him. We had mostly black spindles, weapons of light, melting point, and blessing. Not every raid is going to have that make up.
To me this fight reminds me of the templar fight before bungie fixed it and bridge. The strat of templar for pushing him off was considered cheese and it was, before bungie fix it. As a rule, the clan learned the fight the right way and taught the relic to those who didn't know how to use it because it helped them once we got to gatekeepr/atheon. After which we went back to pushing him off in the interest of time and for the extra chest.
I don't like the one orb strat because it takes something away from the fight, but I'm fine with running it that way going forward if we decide this to be the prefered strat for the clan going forward. Just keep in mind that we don't know what challenge mode requires yet. If I had someone in the raid who never did gaze, guess what they would be doing. Yep gaze. On a side note, I know if I was the guy that designed the fight and saw people doing the one orb strat, I'd be like, -blam!- me.

I think the decision of what strat to use should be left up to the person leading the raid. They should use their best judgment and make the call based on how well the group is clicking. Maybe someone in the group is on a time crunch and doesn't want to spend 3 hours so Billy can learn how to hold gaze, maybe everyone in the group has only done horseshoe and therefore one orb strat would not be ideal. Maybe the group has been struggling and it would be best to play it safe. Likewise maybe it's been the most amazing group and you all decide to jerk it while someone solos oryx. My point is that I think different strategies are tools for us to use when the time is right.

Did a clan raid last night and we downed him with one-orb strat in three orbs, I think, maybe four. Granted there were two Admins and one or two vets, but there were still a few mistakes that we were able to recover from easily. I've run this as gaze holder and as DPSer on NM and HM a bunch of times. The minimal adds are a huge plus for this strat. Many of Destiny's HM encounters are extremely unforgiving, but I find one-orb quite flexible.
