Part 6: Vengeance

Sigma was jostled awake by Alpha. “Omega and the others need you with the Vanguard.” He said. Sigma shook the drowsiness from his eyes and rolled off his cot. He reached for his armor. The recording played over and over in the background behind Cayde-6. Sigma entered and stood beside Alpha. Omega, Delta, Theta, Kappa, and the three Vanguard mentors greeted him. “Sigma, Cayde's team on Venus encountered a rogue Guardian earlier today.” Zavala informed him. “This is what we were able to recover from the team leader’s helmet recording.” Zavala played Skott’s final moments again on the screen. Sigma was silent. As the clip ended, Sigma spoke. “That… Guardian is the same one my team encountered on Mars.” “He calls himself ‘Trivium.’ It was also the name of an ancient, Golden Age metal band.” Zavala said. “We see no correlation though.” Sigma laughed and nodded. “We will hunt him, and we will bring him to justice.” He said. Cayde-6 shook his head, angry. “Negative Titan. I want that scum drinker dead.” Ikora spoke up. “He could contain valuable information-” “You say that like he’s a book! That monster won’t reveal anything!” Cayde interrupted. “Warlocks have our ways.” Ikora responded. “Oh I’m sure you do, but that was my team. My friends. My Hunters.” “I understand that Cayde. But we need to prevent more attacks like this.” “And we can! We kill all of those Lost Guardians!” Sigma looked over at his team, then the arguing Vanguard. “We will find him. If we can extract information, we will. Other wise, we aim to terminate.” The Warlock and the Hunter Vanguard looked over, and nodded. Zavala smiled and nodded at the six soldiers. “Thank you Sigma. And Omega… it’s nice to see you’re still alive. We never wanted to exile you. Blame the Speaker for that.” Omega nodded, then stepped up to shake Zavala’s hand. They shook, then the six walked out of the meeting room. “I’ve got some things to pack before we head out,” said Theta. She smiled mischievously. Kappa smiled as well, an Alpha stared at the hunter for a beat too long. “Let's prep the ships, Alpha.” Sigma ordered. Alpha nodded and followed the Titan. “Report to the hanger in 15.” Omega said. The other five nodded curtly in reply and headed their separate ways. Kappa and Theta entered their personal armory in a forgotten area of the Tower. Theta reached for her hand canon, The Whisper of Men. The weapon was a clean, streamlined weapon with a multitude of wires and cords winding around the barrel and chamber. Kappa snatched his scout rifle from its place on the workbench. Its name, Incisions, was etched into the metal below the sights. He checked the retractable bayonet, then flipped the versatile weapon onto his back. Kappa and Theta simultaneously drew their swords and sparked them to life. The prototypes were a bit cruder than the ones distributed today, but they functioned the same. Theta the Hunter boasted a void sword, and Kappa the Warlock held an arc sword. They smiled and exited the armory. Sigma heard the approaching footsteps and lowered himself from his blockade runner. Recognizing Delta, he reached back up into the ship and continued his work. “Sigma, I need you to check my… other arm. I think something’s off.” She said. Sigma set his tools down and leapt to the hangar floor. “What’s wrong?” He asked. She held it out to him. “I don’t know. The Vex machinery seems to be acting up a bit.” “Eh. Just remnants of the mind.” Sigma removed some of the brass-like casing and tinkered with the wires. “It still works in perfect union with The Reverie?” He asked, referring to her hand cannon. “Affirmative Sigma. It just… I don’t know. Like there’s voices. Talking to me.” Sigma stopped, looked at the warlock, and closed up her casing. She lowered her mechanical arm. “How often? What do they say?” “Not sure. It’s like a few million, all at once. Nothing overwhelming. I only pick out a few words.” Sigma nodded, then stepped back to his ship. “After the op I’ll look into it. Shouldn’t be much.” Delta thanked him, then strode away. Sigma stepped back up into his ship. He finished his repairs and closed the plates. “Chief. Give me a pre flight check.” Sigma’s ghost materialized, scanned the ship, and floated back to the Titan. “All good sir. Ready to fly.” Sigma nodded and turned to his cart, grabbing his rifle. “Sir.” Chief spoke up. “What’s up?” “That Guardian we saw in the recording. I couldn’t complete a full analysis on the voice, but I think it may be-” “I know. But he’s dead. There’s no way he could turn into a monster like that.” “The reports never listed his body as found.” “He’s dead. I watched him fall.” Sigma said with authority. “Sir, Gam-” “Don’t. That name is dead. Gamma was a good man. A good friend. The Order will miss him. Now, we have a mission.” Chief was silent, then dematerialized. Sigma’s comms chirped. “Sigma, Theta, Kappa, Alpha, Delta. Begin preflights. We’re moving out.” Omega said. Sigma clicked his transponder once in confirmation, and climbed aboard. Settling into the pilot’s seat, he systematically set his weapons into their slots on the sides of his seat. Then he warmed up the engines. The harness came over his head and locked into place. He set his helmet on the console and signaled the hanger bots to clear the runway. He edged the Blockade Runner into the staging area. He checked the flaps, marked a trajectory, and waited for Omega to signal the OK. Delta’s Ceres Galliot eased to a hover to his right, and Alpha’s Kestrel Class AX0-34.6 to his left. Sigma smiled. A true Fireteam. Omega, Theta, and Kappa settled their ships into formation behind his. “Sigma, take the lead for this launch.” Omega told him. Sigma confirmed, flashed his engines, then launched out of the hanger with no warning. The rest followed suite. https://www.bungie.net/en/Forum/Post/146936835/0/0
