To give brand new players a chance, otherwise as the game ages, new players will be so behind they will just not even try.
How in the hell does leaving Year 1 behind help give anyone a chance? First of all; the only area where powerful gear can ever affect another player is Crucible, where all of Year 1 is still usable. And, as for PvE, all the most popular gear were Raid weapons, which new players would still be able to obtain. No imbalance, whatsoever. Second, as I've thoroughly pointed out in my posts, all of Year 1 has been nerfed so that it is equally as powerful as Year 2. A new player, using all Year 2 weapons is equally as powerful as someone using Year 1 weapons. Also, you mention the need for new players; You know what would get more new players? Advertising a game with THREE Raids and 350+ Legendary/Exotic weapons; not ONE Raid and 50-ish Legendary/Exotic weapons. Trust me, I'm just as concerned with new players as I am with the veterans, but if I looked at Destiny from an outsider's perspective, I'd be infinitely more likely to jump into the game if I knew that ALL the content was relevant. What's the point of marketing the "Legendary Edition" if everything but TTK is worthless?
