Edit: Combat rating is holding pretty steady as the clear winner of this poll.
I've tried to argue with people that skill is determined by more than KD alone, and that if you're going to judge by KD then they should go by recent kd, instead of overall.
I've argued that win % and combat rating are better indicators, but that didn't seem to go over well either.
Some people say that trials and rumble kd are much better indicators, and they might be for that particular situation, but again I don't think it shows overall skill.
What do guys think? My personal opinion is that these numbers show nothing when taken individually and it's better to look at the big picture.
Edit: alot of people are asking what combat rating is, here is my understanding; Combat rating starts at a base value of 100 for everyone, if you play 'within expectations' it doesn't change much, but if you do better or worse than those expectations it will change alot.
I think it takes the teams average combat rating, and which ever is higher is expected to win. I don't know if it accounts for individual kill/death in the same manner or not.
If a team has a much higher rating than yours and you lose, you don't lose much, but if you win you gain alot. The opposite is also true, if your team is much higher and you win you don't gain much, but if you lose than your rating is dropped alot.
I don't know how much more goes into it, someone else can correct me if I'm wrong.

It certainly is a combination of all of them. A big picture. My KD was like 1.25 last week, which is lower than my cumulative and much lower than I have been doing. That's because I pretty much only played Trials last week. So even recent KDR isn't that great of an indicator.

For me is the type of weapons you can do well with
-
In a game like destiny that isn't competitive win % means nothing. You can go with a group of 6 and never vs another team of 6 and pub stomp. Matchmaking puts people with the highest skill with team mates without thumbs. Also people farm for their win % and k/d to go up now in trials
-
Exactly what factors into combat rating anyone?
-
I think it's 2-3 of those combined
-
Dont see why win% would be important. Unless it's a 1v1 type of game mode then wins can be dependent on allies, such as in clash.
-
Recent k/d is a good indication if skill. K/d and combat rating in rumble is probably the best skill indicator, seeing as you have to be good in 1v1's
-
Could anyone explain combat rating. Mine is about 90-100 in most game modes but well over 300 in trials (even though my trials kd is terrible). Which one is a better rating?
-
The only real indicator is game history. If people are fighting strong opponents they will die more often than if they are fighting weak ones.
-
Pardon my ignorance but what is combat rating
-
Your kd in halo 5.
-
Combat rating. I don't know how it's calculated, but I know it takes several things into account rather than a single stat, including kd and how well you play objectives.
-
Kills per game average!
-
Win % isn't a too reliable. I'm top 1% in win %, but only because I always play skirmish with a full team.
-
ELO rating is the best way.
-
I think that skill doesn't matter in this society. screw the man
-
Where do you find combat rating?
-
Solo or playing with fireteam

Edited by Kornby: 11/10/2015 7:15:44 PMDude k/d is a good method. When I play against someone with a 1.5+ k/d i get beat 1v1 8/10 times. When I play against people with a 1.0 k/d i beat them 8/10 times. There are exceptions to this rule but overall k/d is the best. Combat rating penalizes rage quitting largly. And I always quit laggy matches.

Edited by RubenSargasm: 11/10/2015 7:06:45 PMI have a combat rating of 355 in Trials on my Warlock

Tbh there is no real clear way to measure skill imo. If you go by KDR, you're essentially punishing players who push and die for objective based game modes. Snipers have higher KDR's because they usually hang back away from harms way, but may not help with the objective play. If people worry too much about their KDR, it makes players more inclined to play too passively, letting the opposing team capture objectives because they don't want to die. As imperfect of a measure that KDR, its the easiest thing interpret and understand. Its also not tied to the performance of your team. My KDR (1.2) is about avg, but I'm usually in the top 3 for my team in the classic 6 v6 playlist.

I don't know why people say K/D. I have a buddy that has played 1 crucible match, and his k/d will forever be 8.3.

Cup size?

For a second I thought we were talking about intellect, strength, and discipline
-
Win %? Lol, with the trash I get matched with...

Would someone mind explaining Combat Rating to me?
