Edit: Combat rating is holding pretty steady as the clear winner of this poll.
I've tried to argue with people that skill is determined by more than KD alone, and that if you're going to judge by KD then they should go by recent kd, instead of overall.
I've argued that win % and combat rating are better indicators, but that didn't seem to go over well either.
Some people say that trials and rumble kd are much better indicators, and they might be for that particular situation, but again I don't think it shows overall skill.
What do guys think? My personal opinion is that these numbers show nothing when taken individually and it's better to look at the big picture.
Edit: alot of people are asking what combat rating is, here is my understanding; Combat rating starts at a base value of 100 for everyone, if you play 'within expectations' it doesn't change much, but if you do better or worse than those expectations it will change alot.
I think it takes the teams average combat rating, and which ever is higher is expected to win. I don't know if it accounts for individual kill/death in the same manner or not.
If a team has a much higher rating than yours and you lose, you don't lose much, but if you win you gain alot. The opposite is also true, if your team is much higher and you win you don't gain much, but if you lose than your rating is dropped alot.
I don't know how much more goes into it, someone else can correct me if I'm wrong.

Where do you find your combat rating?
-
Go to Destiny Tracker and use True Skill.
-
Just try to compare yourself to me lol?
-
It's rng. That's the only obvious answer.
-
Doesn't matter for me. I suck no matter how performance is measured.
-
What's a combat rating? I saw some random stat on some Destiny Tracker site, but I don't know the details.

Other: Network connection

Raid K/D and being able to take every role in every raid. The rest is irrelevant.
-
A lot of people who have high kdr sit at the back of the map and snipe. There are some who are always in the thick of the action and they're the real mvps. My kdr is lower than I'd like because I go objectively correct almost every game. Win % isn't fair because a shit player could play in 6 player fireteam all the time and naturally have a higher win % than a lone Wolf like me. Truth is, there's no real indicator.
-
Really high Kds in this game only means one thing: you use that times current op weapons
-
I have no idea how combat rating is determined.
-
none of the above. why? because some people will untimaly mess around with friends. when trials starts in friday i have a bunch of friends that just wanna get the bounties so i jump on with them and we just play for fun so i dont bother trying half of the time. same thing goes with bounties, new guns and quests. id have a very different win/kda if i concentrated and put effort into every pvp game i play.

skill hahaha

There is no stat that can tell you that, throw in Bounties, Quest, trying new guns, trying new gear, perks ect.....what you do out side of a Raid or actual competition pvp is far differant than the actual thing. Who goes 100% all of the time?
-
Win % I disagree with, as a group of mediocre 6's will have a higher win percent than a really good solo player. But I'm not sure how combat rating is determined.... Kd is a good way of checking an individual's gun skill. But not the other parts of pvp. Team work is huge, ask trials. But having good gun skills can overcome a lot of other things...
-
Win percent? No. You can't call somebody bad because they are unlucky with matchmaking. I like to judge people on KD/A. It shows how much a person contributes to their team. If you have a high kd, chances are you have barely any assists. I have a lot of assists

Suicides. I'm top 5 percent. Get on my level.

It certainly is a combination of all of them. A big picture. My KD was like 1.25 last week, which is lower than my cumulative and much lower than I have been doing. That's because I pretty much only played Trials last week. So even recent KDR isn't that great of an indicator.
