Edit: Combat rating is holding pretty steady as the clear winner of this poll.
I've tried to argue with people that skill is determined by more than KD alone, and that if you're going to judge by KD then they should go by recent kd, instead of overall.
I've argued that win % and combat rating are better indicators, but that didn't seem to go over well either.
Some people say that trials and rumble kd are much better indicators, and they might be for that particular situation, but again I don't think it shows overall skill.
What do guys think? My personal opinion is that these numbers show nothing when taken individually and it's better to look at the big picture.
Edit: alot of people are asking what combat rating is, here is my understanding; Combat rating starts at a base value of 100 for everyone, if you play 'within expectations' it doesn't change much, but if you do better or worse than those expectations it will change alot.
I think it takes the teams average combat rating, and which ever is higher is expected to win. I don't know if it accounts for individual kill/death in the same manner or not.
If a team has a much higher rating than yours and you lose, you don't lose much, but if you win you gain alot. The opposite is also true, if your team is much higher and you win you don't gain much, but if you lose than your rating is dropped alot.
I don't know how much more goes into it, someone else can correct me if I'm wrong.

Would be nice if rumble kd determines skill more than overall kd since my rumble kd is highest of all game types. But then again I think rumble is the easiest get a relatively high kd

None. It's called facing them head on in the crucible. Some games are good while others are bad.
-
So many retards!! It is win ratio, only 9%?!! I don't care how good your KD or DTR is. If you cannot win a game! You are nothing! Are we not not playing to win games in PvP?
-
K/D is the best indicator if you want to roughly know the skill of a player. Beyond that, if you really care you would then check out all their stats. T

I think last 7 days or 30 days Kd is petty good . It skips the practice / learning phase
-
A combination of many things. But I think last 30 days KD is a good place to start. But it is certainly not the sole drciding factor. It just proves how much more you kill than die. Combining that with medals is good I think

score per minute

This may be a really dumb question but can someone explain combat rating to me? My hunter is currently around 105 combat rating, is that good or bad? What is the highest/lowest CR possible? How is it determined?
-
Ive never been great at FPS pvp so it wouldnt really be fair to judge my skill on my pvp KD
-
For me as long as the other player is nice to talk to then that'll do. Yours truly A casual

Edited by Sp00ky Ostrich: 11/11/2015 3:16:46 AMI have to say what medals they have. They show true skill in different areas. Phantom-Capable of getting kills (7 at the least) without risking death. Mark of the Unbroken-Sign of determination and shows they can last a long time. Bulletproof-They work well in Elimination teams and can usually hold their own ground. They will also try to be there when they need it. Sum of All Tears-They are skillful on their own and can hold their own ground as well as outperform everyone else combined. 7th Column-Yes, this is partially luck, but it also shows that they know exactly when a super should be used. We Ran Out of Medals-Capable of killing and surviving for long periods of time. No Mercy-Can wipe out a team quickly

Probably patrol kd

Why are people voting for a stat that's formula isn't publicly released? Nobody knows how Combat Rating works except Bungie...

SPM...Score Per Minute
-
How well they get stuff done while screwing around.

Kdr hasn't matter since cod 4 and gb rank was around. If you care about kdr and anything else like that then you're playing the game wrong. I let my girl play on crucible and try to do strikes and raids. Does that represent myself as my character now? Play the game for fun people stop adding "skill" where skill doesn't need to be. Its a game, you're either good or you're not

Skill is not numerically identifiable

What's a good combat rating?
-
K/D cannot be relied upon. Any PvE content can have an event that can cause a wipe situation, especially in raids, that have nothing to do with a specific player's skill (see Gorgon's Laberynth). The same can be true in PvP, where a good player can get teamed up with a bad team and be facing a team that is practiced, or could have been doing a quest (see Sword Quest). These irregularities can and do effect a player's K/D. As such, K/D alone is not reliable. Grimioire can be obtained simply through play time, and doesn't nessiarily mean a player is skilled. Players can be carried through raids and missions. All this means that you can end up with a player with a high Grimioire score, a level 40 character with 310 light and a Malice... ...who is utterly useless. But usually that isn't the case.
-
It has and always will be Score per Minute. You can grind Rating. You can use crutches for K/D, or play control like clash. SPM wins games.
-
Can someone explain to me what does combat rating and DTR mean?
-
-
Look at an individual's total number of kills, kills per game, and their precision kill ratio. You'll get a really good idea of their proficiency across game modes.

Grimiore!!!!!!!!
just Kidding!!!
