All of the races we fight joined the Darkness by choice. The Hive did it for eternal life, the Fallen for security, Vex for survival, and we do not understand the Cabal enough for their reason.

Could you point me where you found that?

Edited by Qwerty: 11/9/2015 12:33:55 AMHive is from the Books of Sorrows' earlier chapters Fallen is from select grimoire, easiest one to remember is Fallen 3
We gathered to take that City and save ourselves from extinction, saying to each other, we must be a storm, a Whirlwind, a darkness, for it is said that only pain may be stolen from the dark, and we can let no more be stolen from us.
-Skolas, after returning from the Darkness Vex is from the Daily Mission Paradox dialogue, its 3 grimoire it gives, and a little from Quria (near the end chapters of Books of Sorrow).

That's not necessarily Skolas. That was found by a Dreg near an abandoned Skiff
-
That could also be meant to be more literal. As in, even they say "dark" they don't mean "Dark". Also, when Variks talks to us about Taniks for the strike, were being sent out to stop him from "stealing the dark" from the hive, so that he cannot "align them with the dark".
-
Maybe, but Skolas said this after returning from the darkness. He also uses the word Whirlwind, which is their name for the Darkness (the darkness that wiped out their civilization was Savathun).
-
From what I've read (from similar posts to this) the Whirlwind was literally a giant whirlwind, created from the traveler taking a speedy hike.
-
The Books of Sorrow describe the Hive destorying the Ammonites, a race of cephalods. The Traveler also created several Golden Ages before leaving them, why would it destroy everything its built by its own vanishing act?
-
Well, according to those same posts, it specifically left the fallen because they were doing terrible things that it didn't want to be associated with (which I wouldn't mind an elaboration on). The only answer to your question that's not weird is if it did that on purpose/didn't care if it made that happen.

But why would the Fallen join the darkness if they want to impress the Great Machine? Their ultimate goal is to reclaim and live under the Great Machine's power again. Joining the darkness will stop that dream in its tracks.
-
They don't want to impress it. They want to reclaim what was stolen.
We gathered to take that City and save ourselves from extinction, saying to each other, we must be a storm, a Whirlwind, a darkness, for it is said that only pain may be stolen from the dark, and we can let no more be stolen from us.
-Fallen 3
