Greetings, #Destiny! The title does not lie; I am here to teach you guardians how to argue (and be successful at said arguing) on the forums. Let's jump right into it!
Within every flimsy argument ever known, the constant among them all is some form of "I don't understand."
For the sake of a controversial topic, I will be using the Sunbreaker argument as an example.
First, you need to recognize what the issue is. What exactly is the problem with Sunbreakers? Are you sure that's the problem? How do you know?
After you understand completely if there is indeed a problem, take a stance on the issue. Do you think Sunbreakers have a problem at all? Why shouldn't they be changed? Why should they be changed? Why do you believe that?
Next, and this is the hardest part: understand the opposite point of view. Let's face it, if no one knows how to derail anyone else's argument, no progress will ever be made. Arguments are judged with relativity; arguments only become good when other arguments are proven weak. To formulate a good argument, make sure you have sufficient evidence that not only supports your claim, but proves that your opinion is more valid than theirs. "But Cadence, how do we go about doing that?" Well I'm glad you asked!
Though the potency of arguments rests on relativity, the manner of their content should be as objective as possible.
"I think Sunbreakers should be nerfed, so obviously Sunbreakers should be nerfed!" Do you see how awfully pitiful that sounds? Well, sorry to break it to you, but a staggering fraction of you variate that exact sentence and throw it around on the forums as prideful as ever. This is not going to sway anyone to think any differently. Not unless you're TripleWRECK or AnonPig, where a name actually holds some weight. You are anonymous on these forums, and your opinion alone is just as credible as the next's. No one knows how trustworthy you are, how many Hammers you've seen thrown, how many Titans you've felled during their super, so don't use this subjective example as evidence. Instead, control all variables, make a video, and back up your claim with undeniable truth.
I hope this small piece of what constructive arguing really is can mold you into an unstoppable arguing machine. I'll edit as I think of more important points I could show.
Argue on, and win with truth.
