So, pretty much everyone knows about him, but are there any guardians out there that DON'T? Well, let me grab you by the shoulders (or waist if you're that stubborn kind of person) and thrust you into the light! Here's everything we know about Xylar, from lore, to looks, to mechanics.
Xylar, The Timeless
Looks
This is how Xylar has been depicted by the fleeting number of guardians he has graced with his presence.
Species: Vex*
Appearance: A chrome, Vex-plated, three-headed dragon, glowing red eyes. The exact number of legs and arms are unknown, as the glare from the eyes offsets any sufficient visual, and no one has gotten close enough to him to be credibly credited.
Encounter: Unknown. The few encounters that have been reported have been seemingly random; no one knows what mechanic was exploited to bring about the Xylar encounter, only that he appears after defeating Atheon.
Lore
This is all the concrete evidence we have accumulated of Xylar's history and speculation.
*Origin: As we all know, time must have a beginning and an end, so must all things bound within our universe. The Vex were supposedly created billions of years ago, and existed far before anyone on earth existed. Xylar, The Timeless, is named that because he created the Vex. "Then what created him?" Well, that's the thing. Xylar was not created, because he isn't bound to our universe's laws. In a way, he was created as he crossed universes into ours, into the Vault of Glass's throne room. In short, Xylar is the creator of the Vex, or the first Vex, whichever one suits you personally.
Mission: Xylar is a dragon, and dragons have been known throughout history and many of other lore-based creations (such as Lord of the Rings) to be excessively greedy. Xylar, being greedy, is in control of all Vex Minds, and uses them to do his bidding: claim victory in all universes and be king, with wealth unimaginable. When he sees six guardians cleaning up one of his most effective soldiers in his universal conquest, he's going to intervene and do something about it, which in this case would be expunge the infiltrators of Atheon's throne room. His goal is similar to Oryx's: avenge his creation.
Mechanics
Of the few people that have been lucky enough to see Xylar, even fewer of them have figured out how to defeat him. Here are the mechanics that have been reported from various guardians that were generous/boastful enough to oblige.
Upon defeating Atheon, there is no timer in which you are kicked back to orbit. That's there for a reason. If The Timeless is displeased enough with the fireteam's performance throughout the raid, and he sees you aren't leaving the throne, he will appear to extinguish his foes. Upon report, you have approximately 20 minutes before he enrages.
Like all current raid bosses, Xylar's fight is sequence based. Remembers Kabr's relic he gave you to defeat Atheon? Yeah, it was for Xylar too.
To start off the fight, Xylar will spawn at the very back of the throne, in the empty space behind where you can stand (you will fall off the back if you are close enough to touch him). At the very edge, close to Xylar, is where the aegis will spawn to start the fight. At the beginning of each sequence, Vex will flood through both portals. This will likely be behind you, since you will need to be together when you grab the aegis. Take the Vex out and destroy the portals to advance to the next step of the sequence. Once the portals are destroyed and all Vex are dead, Xylar will continue shooting fire from his three heads. These shots are in a pattern. You must determine the pattern that he shoots his fire and shoot the head that shot the closest burst of fire to Xylar, but you will still need to remember the pattern for future reference. The head that shot the fire shortest will be the most vulnerable during Time's Vengeance. To activate Time's Vengeance, all three heads must be shot in unison. This must be coordinated by three people or a Gjallarhorn shot would suffice, as the Wolfpack Rounds disperse to all three heads. Xylar has a TON of hit points, so you won't be able to take out one head in one round. To deal extra damage, the fire he spits turns blue upon Time's Vengeance, at which point you can stand in the fire. The fire only works on the head it is shot out of. After Time's Vengeance is done, one member will be teleported through each portal. To make it out, fight/run through the flood of Vex back through the portal. After both members are through, you must destroy the portals and kill the Vex again, and Xylar, or as I like to call him, Xyguy, will spit fire again, and the cycle continues. Xylar dies upon all three heads being defeated.
I hope you all have a great day, and remember, if you need someone to grab gaze, I'll grab the gaze. OF LORE. Alright drive safe
