If the vex can time travel why have they not gone back in time and defeat us when we were technologically challenged? What do they really want?

The Traveler brought the Citadel, Garden's Spire, etc. over from the Vex's alternate universe when it terraformed. If it weren't for the Traveler, the Vex wouldn't be in our system. Grandfather paradox
