A game like destiny will have fluctuations in the number of people playing over time but probably won't "die" as some people are suggesting.
Lots of new good games are coming out at the same time most people have finished grinding in destiny. It's expected that you will see the numbers drop.
In the future I assume they will bring people back for a bit with an update or dlc.

Is what a lot of people have said for a year. They are gonna jerk us around until they have a stupid new dlc trailer and some new false promises to keep us going. And now they -blam!- us with etheric light and wormspore....so we can gain higher reputation in factions that don't reward shit! I mean what else can Petra do with etheric light?
