Finally a discussion I might actually enjoy. First, I'd like to thank you for not using scrub in your reply.
As for reskinned weapons and diversifying gameplay. The numbers on the guns are different along with the perks. IMO, it was a shortcut instead of having to completely reinvent the wheel. Plus with the new weapon line from the three weapon brands, if you will, make for a pretty big selection.
Just because they are reskinned, doesn't mean that they have to be used constantly like in year 1. Any burn on a weapon primary was a definite must to have equipped in pve at least. And if this isn't true, at least the mindset was true. People hunted Templar and Atheon for FB and VoC. And Crota obviously.
Granted I loved having the burns, but I think bungie had it right by revoking them this time. I felt too strong and nothing was challenging until PoE. Without the burns, it makes it more fun for me. Like I had to coordinate weapons with team mates like I would for trials.
IMO, it was a shortcut instead of having to completely reinvent the wheel. Plus with the new weapon line from the three weapon brands, if you will, make for a pretty big selection.
Ah, but they already did reinvent it! The 2.0 patch was implemented with the express intent of balancing the entire gear pool; both Year 1 and Year 2. And, even if you think the amount of gear in TTK is fine (which I don't, but that's fine), imagine how much bigger it could've been! They already went through the entire Year 1 weapon/perk sets and literally rebalanced them one-by-one, making them perform at the same level as Year 2; they put in all that work, yet they're still limiting Year 1 to PvP, which is asinine. Elementals aside, the entire gear pool is on completely equal footing, and there is no reason why PvE players should be left out. And, as for Elementals; like I said, they were a FANTASTIC motivation to participate in the Endgame, and they never hurt anyone.
I felt too strong and nothing was challenging until PoE. Without the burns, it makes it more fun for me.
It might be more fun for you, but it's less fun for me. I assume you can understand that? :P I understand that you want an actual challenge, and trust me, I agree; I almost never used Ghally for that exact reason. However, that was my choice, and it was completely independent of what anyone else used; their choices didn't affect me, and my choices didn't affect them. If you don't want to rely on Burn Primaries, you should have every option to use other weapons; however, if I do want to use them, I should have the same freedoms as you do, when it comes to what I want to use! The gear system is primed to cater to both types of players, yet players like me are the one's who get exclusively shit on, while players like you are fine. Doesn't that seem unnecessary to you, given that we could both theoretically get out way?

Your reasoning is pretty cool. I have to admit. You do bring up some good points. If they had more primary weapon burns, I'd be using them. If they had a y2 Gjallarhorn, I'd be using that too. But since they are yet to come, I just reason that maybe we don't need them. Sorry my eloquent friend. I can't make any more promises than Deej, but maybe they'll bring them back. Maybe it was a great idea, then they read the data and thought they were too powerful to keep.

Solid discussion. Whatever happens, I hope we all win, in the end. :D
