Questions like this make my reevaluate my existence. In such a colossal universe, it's near-impossible to possibly comprehend how small and, unfortunately, menial our existence as the Human race truly is. We are but a minuscule speck in life.
I often wonder what's out there; we're most definitely a small species, imagine how immense other planets can be and, consequently, how many possibilities of life there are out there. Being an atheist, it's quite worrying to think that we are just 7 billion entities floating in the great vacuum of space, helpless to stop anything that chooses to attack us.
We could be wiped out in an instance. Everything that we have accomplished- the wheel, the Pyramids, communication through radio signals, every documentation of what had, what is, and what ever will happen on Earth- would be obliterated. All traces of our existence would be destroyed. Gone.
And what genuinely scares me is that nobody would remember us. After all, in such an immense life, we're nothing. A mere speck. Who (or should I say what) would bother to even spare a thought to measly little Earth and its puny little 7,000,000,000 ish semi-intelligent life forms?
Apparently Space is ever expanding. An infinite space for infinite possibilities. Which most surely mean that what I've just described had happened to a world now. They have been completely obliterated and we didn't even know- won't ever know that it happened.
And to you, reader, who reads, hear this. Not to depress you, but odds are, even if you are the most important person to have ever lived on our measly planet, you will never make a difference to anything outside of our solar system. Hell, even Voyager 1, the furthest thing possible away from us, is still within range of our Solar System. That is minuscule when looking on a scale of our Galaxy. And the Galaxy is minuscule when looking at a universal scale. It is never ending.
TL;DR: I get a real kick out of depressing people.
