Yet there is very little outrage over this prime example of consumer abuse.
Because it isn't consumer abuse, and it's ridiculous to think that it is.
- Bungie never stated that they wouldn't continue to produce DLC/expansions for sale. It was speculated that money from microtransaction sales would go toward funding future content, but as far as I know that was unconfirmed and based on 2nd hand accounts from an IGN interview. That of course doesn't mean that it isn't true, but it also doesn't mean that microtransactions were ever going to be the only way additional content was funded.
- It's very possible that microtransactions are allowing Bungie to do smaller events (like last weeks Halloween event) that might not otherwise fit into their budget/timetable.
- It's unlikely that microtransactions of the type we've seen in the game so far would have ever generated enough money to pay for the kind of content we saw with TDB and HoW . While I don't think anyone would have described either of those expansions as a great value or packed full of content, I also don't think it's realistic to expect that much content to be financed by microtransactions and released for free.
- There's no consumer abuse happening here. Bungie offered a game for sale. They offered 3 expansions for sale. They've offered emotes for sale. They've delivered on all of that. Despite what you may think, no promises were broken. No fraud took place. The idea that there's some kind of argument for consumer abuse is absurd and fueled by nothing except entitlement. I know people here like to immediately dismiss any argument that includes the word entitlement, but that's all this is. You paid for a game and got a game. You paid for expansions and got expansions. You paid for emotes and got emotes. Now you feel like you're entitled to more without paying, and you're ready to claim abuse because you haven't gotten it. Thats entitlement.
