Before I get started for those of you who are not aware I regret to inform you that Gamespot released an article today covering the future of DLC content in Destiny. This is a direct quote from the article.
Destiny's microtransactions and paid expansions are both selling well, Activision Publishing CEO Eric Hirshberg said on an earnings call today, November 3. As such, Destiny players can expect to see more of both in the future.
So the microtransactions....the microtransactions that were supposedly implemented to fund future content is going to stay....but we will all still have to fork out money for DLC.
Yet there is very little outrage over this prime example of consumer abuse.
So that brings me back to my analogy.
The Kotaku article sheds light on the fact that Bungie and Activision cut up Vanilla Destiny to be sold separately.
The forums barely bat an eye. The article shows that not only was the game cut up, but that it was cut up for the sole purpose of being sold separately at a premium just so they could squeeze more money out of us. Any normal community would have been up in arms over such a revelation. The torches and pitchforks would be lit and the forums would have burned to the ground.
But no. Not this community.
You all just shrugged and kept moving forward. Oh well. Its not Bungie's fault. Its all Activision. Bungie loves us and wants to be good to us they just can't. So I am just gonna keep playing and hope it gets better. I know Bungie can change.
I kry errytim.
Microtransactions are introduced into a game that most of us have paid over $120 for
Once again mild outrage from a handful of players, but overall this community just rolls over and takes it in the ass with pleasure. Thank you Bungie senpai for this great gift.
They cut content and set it aside to be sold separately at a premium YET AGAIN and no one seems to really care. Some even naively believe that the microtransactions would lead to free DLC in the future. The rest of you all just shrug and then say well its not Bungie's fault. Its cl;early just Activision. Bungie wants to love us and be good to us, but they just can't. So I am gonna keep playing and hope it gets better. I know Bungie can change.
I kry errytim
Every misstep and every abuse is almost immediately forgiven and shoved aside in favor of blind hope and naive support. Each and every time they abuse or take advantage of the community you all just shrug and make excuses for them. You say its not their fault or that its just how the game business works. Or that they HAVE to make money somehow right?
NO OTHER GAME WORKS LIKE DESTINY DOES AND NO OTHER GAME HAS TROUBLE MAKING MONEY. PLENTY OF GAMES MAKE PLENTY OF MONEY AND STILL DON'T TAKE ADVANTAGE OF THEIR PLAYERBASE.
Witcher 3 for example released over a dozen FREE DLC packs and their entire season pass was $25. The latest DLC called "Hearts of Stone" got a better review score than ANY of the Destiny content that has been released and yet it only costs $10.
Bethesda is another prime example. They have released games like Fallout 3 and Skyrim all to critical and FINANCIAL success. They released quality DLC for a fair price and they made a FORTUNE.
Bioware released Mass Effect 3 with quality DLC for a fair price and even threw in FREE multiplayer DLC packs every month or so. Yet it was the most financially successful game in the franchise.
You people need to wake the -blam!- up and look around you. Look at all the games that have been released since Destiny launched and look at how many have used the kind of underhanded tactics that has been used with Destiny.
Stop using "Business" as an excuse as if it alleviates ALL abuses.
Stop using your hours played as an excuse as if you are in too deep to be treated with respect.
Stop shrugging your -blam!-ing shoulders as if there is nothing you can do.
Stop acting like there is nothing wrong.
Stop acting like Bungie owns your -blam!-ing dignity and self respect just because you happen to like the game.
And for the love of god stop forgiving them every single time they decide to abuse your trust as a consumer. You are just like a battered wife that loves her husband too much to realize that he is a steaming pile of abusive shit and that you can do BETTER for yourself and that you DESERVE to be treated better.
For -blam!- sake.

I hear what you are saying and I can tell you are upset, we will return to that point in a moment. But now I would like to know: how would you describe your relationship with your father? Lay back on this couch, it helps your feelings flow out... (sets one hour timer)
-
With your low grimoire I suspect you are actually the battered wife
-
Don't buy the game or no longer buy DLC content. Simple it's sucks, but will our voice be enough to stop and change this? Ever since DLC came out I've cried foul.
-
I got to say, this was well written.
-
Well written.

Link article please?

Ike... get off of Tina.

The NFL approves this thread.

you guys act like the government is forcing us into camps or something... its a business and partaking in the product of said company is a consumer choice...its not our right to have free stuff or to demand anything....its our right to not purchase if we so desire...so use that right if you don't like it or don't but all these posts about lies and -blam- bungie blah blah are a waste of your time because for every person pissed off there are a thousand more who are perfectly happy...with 25,000,000 users logging 3 hours a day, all they see is what they are doing works....why would they release free content when the majority of players are are paying for DLC AND MT? some people don't like it but I bet losing those players is minor compared to what they are still bringing in...its one of those "deal with it or leave" situations, so I guess you have a choice to make
-
First of all, you're over-reacting. Yes, Bungie has problems, but they're not the devil. Second.... trivializing domestic violence = not cool. Third.... women commit spousal abuse, in equal or greater percentages than men. This data can't be officially confirmed, because men are FAR more likely to not report being victimized in the home, due to social stigma, and the unwillingness on the part of both courts and law enforcement to serve justice on abusive wives. F**king check yourself.

November 10 - Fallout 4 is Released The day a shit-ton of people left Destiny for a superior game that promises to not nerf everything to artificially extend its lifetime.
-
I hope that even if it's not free it goes down to £10
-
You aren't being forced to buy stuff. You do understand that right? Right?
-
It'd actually be opposite. Bungie would be an abusive wife and we'd be the husband.

To correct you point by point:
The Kotaku article sheds light on the fact that Bungie and Activision cut up Vanilla Destiny to be sold separately...The article shows that not only was the game cut up, but that it was cut up for the sole purpose of being sold separately at a premium just so they could squeeze more money out of us.
Nowhere and in no fashion was this written. In fact, it was directly contradicted. TDB was written in 9 weeks, AFTER the release of the vanilla game. I'm getting that directly from the same article you supposedly read. But because it had the words "content" and "cut" in it, you believe it backs up your view that there was a "cut content" scam.
Microtransactions are introduced into a game that most of us have paid over $120 for
Transactions for items that are 100% optional and 100% cosmetic. Please make your point.
Look at all the games that have been released since Destiny launched and look at how many have used the kind of underhanded tactics that has been used with Destiny.
Please find me any major game that does not have a season pass or other add-on content that must be paid for to experience everything the game has to offer. The Batman games have add-on content. Call of Duty and Battlefield have map packs which, if not purchased, mean you will slowly have more and more trouble getting into multiplayer matches (and admit it, multiplayer is the core of those games).
You are just like a battered wife
This analogy trivializes REAL domestic abuse in a way I can't begin to explain. Actual domestic abuse costs lives. All Destiny costs is money. If I'm ever dissatisfied with the money it costs compared with the entertainment it gives, I'll stop, simple as that. Are you interested in helping REAL victims of domestic abuse? Go donate or volunteer at a shelter. Do something USEFUL with your time. This? This was not useful.

+1 Too bad most will continue to blindly throw money at the screen. Because of Destiny's success this type of mentality will slowly become the norm in the gaming industry...
-
Didn't mass effect 3 also have pay to win multiplayer? Thats what was supporting the teams making content for free updates to multiplayer. I didnt read a lot of this as it seems like stuff ive seen about 20 times on the forums.

Holy crap. If you disagree, WALK AWAY!! If I go into a restaurant and the food and service sucks, do I go back? No I don't. If Destiny decides to do micro transactions and DLC every month and it sucks, I won't buy it. It really is that simple. They are the ones that could Alienate or revel their fan base with these tactics. Have had plenty of friends already bail on this game and as this year continues with new games released, I know I'm hearing about more. I enjoy the game and what it is. DLC and microtrans as they stand. If it ever gets to a play to win type game though. You will see me on another game enjoying that.

Edited by Hames: 11/4/2015 6:19:35 PMA couple of issues with your rant... For starters, the conclusion of the Gamespot article was Gamespot's conclusion. They were evaluating what they had learned, not speaking actual information direct from Activision. It may end up being exactly as they say, it just isn't responsible to cite that as hard evidence. Secondly, the Kotaku article detailed a very different picture of Destiny's development than you're painting here. Yes, Destiny's story was chopped up late in the development process, and yes some of the pieces did end up being paid DLC, but the intention behind that is key. They didn't set out to specifically cut content just to sell it later, that was simply an after effect of that last minute edit. And don't for a second be naive enough to believe that other game companies don't hold back content from vanilla versions of their games to sell as DLC. It's a common practice. Third, microtransactions are overblown as these horrible things, yet they're providing absolutely zero competitive advantage. None. Many games use microtransactions with no issue to overall gameplay (even Mass Effect 3, a game that you used as a positive example). There just isn't any evidence to support the claim that microtransactions are a problem. Finally, the cost. It's very simple: if it isn't worth it, don't buy it. No one is forcing your hand here. No one is reading into your wallet and taking the money. If you purchased the DLC or silver or anything at all, you made the conscious choice to do that. To then turn around and get mad at Bungie for it is like people trying to sue McDonald's for making them fat. Bungie isn't responsible for your our financial decision making skills. Edit: Corrected the mistakes that others had pointed out with the sourcing for my arguments.
-
I think it's the other way around, personally.
-
I think games like Fallout and The Witcher are just better games at their core. Destiny really doesn't have much substance compared to games like that. It has to rely on different mechanics like RNG loot to keep the player base coming back. Not saying it's necessarily a bad thing, just a different business model that we have to learn to accept in this modern gaming landscape. They can put out less substantial offerings and rest easy knowing that much of the player base is still here to collect stuff and develop their character.
-
Ok bye.
-
I don't mind as long as bungie apologizes and gives me shiny things after slapping me around. And NO, I don't know what delusional means.
-
I know Destiny is screwed up but I love the game.
-
I salute you sir. I share your sentiments exactly.
-
Thank you, nobody wants to believe it but this completely true
