Etheric Light should be used to make Rare gear into Legendary gear
As of now, Etheric Light is the most useless drop in the game. It has no purpose and does nothing for you; you can't even turn it in to the Speaker for Glimmer or Motes. But, what if it had a new purpose? I was thinking a while back about how nice some of the Rare armor sets in the game look, and how much it sucks that I can't wear them without handicapping myself. And then I thought about Etheric Light; purposeless and useless Etheric Light. But then it hit me; what if that oh so useless Material could be used to upgrade a Rare armor piece/weapon into a Legendary weapon? It would give Etheric Light a purpose and double if not triple Armor Customization. And just for balancing reasons, Etheric Light would only change gear from Rare to Legendary; and not affect Dmg/Dfns values. Upon upgrading the gear to Legendary, its Dmg/Dfns value would stay the same: so that 287 Rare helmet stays 287 upon upgrade, but now you can actually Infuse it to a higher value.
Come on, you ALL know you want to wear a Legendary Seraph I armor set.

That's... Actually a really cool idea. But Bungie is all about grinding for new materials so they'll probably just make it convert into motes.

Yes! My main gripe about rare gear is that rare armor looks better sometimes. We don't have a large selection of gear in terms of looks. Bring back some old gear and let us make rare to legendary!

If they do anything with the etheric lights it should either be: A: exchanged it for motes or strange coins B: add one light level to a piece of gear(but have a limit due to level caps)

Edited by GraciousEel761: 10/31/2015 8:38:44 PMI think it should just be used the same way it was in House of Wolves. For upcoming level increases, just give it a Light Value of say 350 (or max light), and use it to infuse gear. Or render it obsolete and give an exchange.

I would treat the upgrade as an infusion kind of thing. Maybe 90% since legendary is 80% and Exotic is 70%. It should only give you a chance at a perk to legendary. Since you are getting it for vanity and should cost more. Once legendary, when ascended it should upgrade the perks to 2 perks. Always 1 behind. Just my .02 cents.
