I am a PVEer. I play strictly play story and patrol. I play strikes only because it is part of the story. I currently have my light at 200. It's too low to play daily story heroic missions, but all good lv 40 items require Legendary Marks to buy. I'm currently playing House of Wolves storyline and have not done the Taken DLC as of yet. Should I just advance through the story until RNG grants me items to make my light above 280?What to do?
Edit: Just want to thank everyone for the suggestions. Definitely will apply every tip that was given.

Step1 realize you are an idiot for thinking you can reach lvl 40 without ttk Step2 buy ttk
-
start ttk and all will fall in place.
-
How don't you go insane
-
Just keep doing heroic strikes. You'll get lots of legendaries.
-
Confirmed that you can't earn mark from crucible even until you finish TTK. So knock that out and you can start earning.
-
Crucible easy daily
-
- Weekly Heroic Strikes x10 marks (30) - Daily Heroic Story Mission x15 marks - Daily Crucible Playlist x15 marks - Weekly Crucible Playlist x10 marks (30) - Dismantling Legendary gear x3 marks Note: “(30)” represents that you can gain Legendary marks from that activity only 3 times a week.

Edited by Corrick II: 10/30/2015 5:51:56 PMFirst, level your characters and unlock the TTK story missions. It takes some grinding, but you can do it. I mostly play solo too. Then, level up the gunsmith until you can get 3 or 4 orders on each character. You'll have to do a lot of glimmer grinding, but you'll net at least 9 legendaries, which is 27 marks each week on top of the other ways to get marks. All told you should be able to get 30 marks a day, plus 30 marks from the strike playlist a week, plus whatever you get from dismantling.

If story and patrol is all you do then you'll never get high light.
-
Dailies, faction ranks, breaking down gunsmith packages.

I hate to say this as I can't stand it but play Crucible. The daily crucible offer 15 marks win or lose. You can get another 45 from completing the weekly crucible play list and win three matches. Crucible with help you level up super fast and get you some descent gear.
-
If you want as much much as you can get weekly do all the bottom left activities in the destination screen. Crucible too. Dont let the deaths get to you. You're there for marks, not to be 1st or have a good KD. Though those are good goals they aren't your priorities. Also trials has some marks, you don't even have to win, just play it.

-Do TTK story -Do following quests to earn marks, gear, and engrams -When you're 250+, do Heroic strikes and Court of Oryx -Suck it up and do daily/weekly Crucible lists. 60 marks right there. Get some PvP quests done while you're at it. Other tips: -Be at your highest Light when cashing in engrams. It ups the Light of your earned gear. -Who gives a sh*t about "Xurning?" Buy stuff from him, if you've got the coins.

Well someone is Hella casual ..

Edited by caldari_warrior: 10/30/2015 5:22:04 PMJest keep doing your quests. Enjoy the journey and get better at the mechanics of the game play as you go. No need to rush. Don't forget, you can do crucible matches everyday for marks. Edit: the only time I need to play with others is strikes and raids, most other times I'm solo and prefer it that way.

Lots of quests
-
Taken King Story unlocks some good quests later on for a few 300 items here and there.

Edited by TheArtist: 10/30/2015 5:02:47 PMFinis the story and the Quest lines. 1. Your light level is appropriate to the House of Wolves content, which was light 160-170 under the current system. 2. You'll get gear to drop that will let you raise your light level to the point where you can then start to do the activities that award marks. 3. Many fo the strories and quest lines at the end of The Taken King story actually award you Legendary marks----or even Legendary gear-----for completing them. So I would worry more about completing the quests and stories, and not worry about marks. Vendor gear----right now----is eight of the old light levels above your head right now.

Edited by wrightflyer_1903: 10/30/2015 2:23:42 PMJust keep grinding bounties until you get to 240 (perhaps a bit more) then you can do the daily that pays 15 marks every day. I think you can do the daily crucible for 15 marks whatever light level you are. So you should be able to make 30 marks a day. Add to that any legendary drops you get that you don't want. Either break them immediately for 3 marks or upgrade them (motes are useful for this) and then break them for 5 marks each. BTW to work up from 200, whenever you decode engrams make sure you have all your highest light level stuff on. Some of the decodes will then be above that level and if you equip them next time then you slowly work your way up. Also don't decrypt all 5/10/whatever engrams in one go with the same stuff equipped. As soon as something decrypts higher than what's already quipped in that slot then equip the new item to help drive things upwards. PS looking at your character - do NOT keep that Petra mask on when decoding as you could be wearing something there that adds a bit of light.
-
Advance through the story at a steady rate and you'll get to the light level you need to be at.
-
Do strikes. Get legendary and then delete them. Got like 50-70 marks in one day
-
Until you reach a higher light level you will need rare engrams drops and rewards from vanguard/crucible quests to get your light higher. I think without legendary marks you can reach about 240 light level. With matchmaking I will try joking the vanguard strikes list. Most people are high enough to carry you until you get a decent light level. Since it's matchmaking you cannot get kicked out. Just chip in with what you can.

Play the daily crucible, You don't have to win, just finish the match
