what do you want as a new gun type in destiny
Be creative here there are no wrong ideas.
I would like the Spartan laser to be a weapon personally, just called something different "Charge Rifle" was a name I had in mind

How about a 'gun like' heavy, that the rounds have the velocity of a normal bullet, but the damage of a grenade or a rocket. Like a cannon or something. Lasers that fire a constant battery powered beam. Grenade launchers like those op things that knights, centurions, and minotaurs carry Flamethrowers And more area of effect based weapons.
