The ultimate problem has always been that players have been rewarded unevenly. This was prevalent back during the Vault of Glass and it's especially been prevalent here. Honestly, Crota's End is the only raid with a decent loot system, which is ironic considering that it's the worst as far as fun factor goes (though it's still fun to some degree... just extremely easy, unfortunately, and very broken). I've never done a CE run where I ONLY got shards and energies.
I remember this one particular VOG Hard run where, despite not already running it on Normal that week, I literally only got Ascendant materials as a reward while everyone else was swimming in Fatebringers and Mythoclasts. Even the guy who swapped out with someone else at Atheon got a Mythoclast. Meanwhile, I kept getting the only thing that's guaranteed in ANY loot drop, and everyone else did too, on top of actual rewards. I honestly felt like I had wasted my time, and since we were all 29's on Hard mode it was a waste of a LOT of time. I put in the same effort as them and got rewarded less than them. It's not even a matter of "I got a crappy gun and they got a good gun", I didn't get a gun AT ALL.
Bungie, just make it so we get SOMETHING. At least with a gun or piece of armor that's weaker than what I have, I have a CHOICE on what to do with it. Moldering Shards (which aren't even on the Hard table)? There's one use, and even those have a small chance to just give you some Moldering Shards. Bungie, fix this shit. One piece of gear per checkpoint (or just make it so that you eventually HAVE to get SOMETHING if you do all checkpoints that week) and NO MOLDERING SHARDS as a reward for Moldering Shards. I think that's fair.
