I was on the forums today and saw two posts specifically about holiday festivals in the Tower. There were two posts that generated quite a bit of controversy, one that called for a Christmas Festival and one that called for a Ramadan Festival.
After reading these posts I couldn't believe how hypocritical and backwards some people on the forums are. Most accept a Christmas festival but are absolutely offended by the mere thought of a Ramadan Festival.
Have we really fallen so far? Posting inappropriate phrases to bash the Islamic faith and making jokes about terrorism. It really is a shame.
Don't give me the cop out excuses of that Christmas is more commercialized and makes up the majority, those explanations are complete crap, not everyone wants to celebrate a holiday with Christian roots.
I for one don't even think that Destiny has any of the faiths we have presently. They praise the Traveler as their Savior and the Speaker is sort of the Pope to the people in a sense. I don't Christmas exists. I do, however, think that having a seasonal festival of some sort would be great
TL;DR
What justifiable reason can you give me for such a huge difference in opinion?
PS- for those that agree what do you think would be a good idea for a festival during the holiday season?
-
Christmas is a commercialised holiday that, under the current accepted practice of it, has no religous practice involved. Ramadam is not
-
Bungie has of yet to support an actual Holiday. Even now they aren't celebrating Halloween, but Festival of the Lost. If they choose to do something around the Christmas season, we can expect something similar.

Realism: No one will ever be able to make everybody happy.

This post is cancer. No one cares about this shit in a -blam!-ing video game. Don't like it don't play. You are not the content creator so get over it.
-
No Christmas, no Ramadan, no Hanukkah, no whatever. Festival of the Lost is not explicitly Halloween. Rather, it feels like more of a combination of Halloween and Day of the Dead. For the holiday season, they should come up with some combination of all the holidays that resemble each other in some way. That way, fewer people get offended. (I say "fewer" since there are always people offended by something somehow. We don't care about those people.)

There should not be any Ramadan anything in this game. What are the cosmetic items people will get? Burkas? Lol stop
-
Why don't we just leave a western developed game to western sensibilities, western ideals and western philosophies? Ultimately it's up to Bungie, and let's face it, regardless of what they do the sheeple will play it.

Winter festival! Snow, gift wrap, candy canes, ect. How hard was that?
-
All religion is evil. 100% percent of all religious wars are caused by religion. Just make it a winter festival or gift week.
-
If anything they should do there own version of the holidays like they did with the festival of the lost its not really Halloween but kind of is at the same time
-
*Holiday* Festival Mentally substitute your beliefs between the *'s and we all win.

Just reading through all the comments about how America was formed and with what ideals, etc., etc. JUST WANTED TO POINT OUT: America was founded in a time when Christianity was the only religion being persecuted, that anyone cared about. If you want to argue, how can you explain the Native religions (By everyone) and Caribbean religious beliefs were being openly persecuted. Religious persecution was a problem, a problem for Christians in Europe. The Founding Fathers realized that this was a major issue and implemented religious freedom into all aspects of America so it would never be an issue again. However, they were all from a Christian background or idealistic system. This then influenced how they made the country. If some of these other religions existed and were and issue at the time, it would have influenced how they made the country. The only problem is they weren't even heard of. So saying that it was meant for all religions that existed and to ever exist is a little unfair to say, because it had literally no impact. The only impact was that different Christian sects. I think people nowadays worry to much about offending people. Most games that have a "winter celebration" ending up making it in a Christmas spirit. I would assume that is the case if the décolleté themselves also celebrate Christmas.
Also, even though Christmas is supposed to be a Christian holiday literally everyone I know (my age/young adult) celebrates Christmas wether they are Christian or not
-
A game made in Christian country, by a company founded by Christians (maybe not hardcore one but still)... If there is going to be any holidays added they will be of those from the country of origin the game was made its that simple

Why not just a winter festival
-
A celebration of the traveller
-
Whats wrong with snow and a gift?
-
Satire?
-
just call it the "Celebration of the risen" We all know that kids will be getting Destiny for Christmas(AKA ruining it)
-
The festival of rebirth created to celebrate the endless respawning brought by the Traveler. We can assume that when the Traveler arrived all religions waned in the face of its real power as opposed to the fictions humans had created over the ages to explain the why and how of existence.

Because any religion that condones throwing stones at a woman until she dies because she "showed her face" to another man other than her husband or cheated or had sex out of wedlock is not ok in my book
