Final edit: This is regarding having a chance of getting no drops from hard mode. A lot of people, including myself, have gotten very frustrated with this to the point where we just don't want to play anymore.
PROOF THIS IS NOT A GLITCH AND SOMETHING WHICH IS INTENDED BY BUNGIE:

It's not easy with a LFG team and after you spend a while fighting the boss, you get nothing or just normal mode loot. What's the point of doing it on Hard if you won't get loot anyway?
I've seen it all. Vault of Glass normal and hard, Crota's End normal and Hard, along with Prison of Elders. I've been through forever 29 but never complained about the rewards but this time I am as every other encounter gave you something every time.
Below is my original post.
Don't I just love it when I spend 20 min on a encounter only to get nothing? Last week it was nothing from sisters. This week, it was nothing from Golgoroth and I was the one who had the gaze. Whoever thought it would be a good idea to remove drops completely is a dumbass who deserves a slap to the face.
GIVE US GUARANTEED DROPS ON EVERY ENCOUNTER!
Just to clarify one thing, I'm not asking for straight 320 drops with perfect rolls. I'm just asking for drops. Now, with the variety of things you can get, you won't be done immediately. You get a drop, then it needs to be 320 and it needs desirable rolls.
For those of you saying "It has always been like this", it hasn't. I've been here since week one (Sign of Founders on my Hunter) and I'll tell you why. Before you got shards and / or energies. You could use those to upgrade your initial gear and make it more powerful. You got something out of it if you remembered correctly. Now, since you don't need ascendant materials to upgrade anymore, the equivalent could be seen as weapons or gear. You use high light stuff and upgrade your initial gear and make it more powerful.
If you do a normal raid and complete it, then do a hard raid, or just do a hard raid straight then you have the chance of getting nothing which has 310+ light until Oryx. What was the point of doing the previous encounters then if they don't guarantee you items? And it's not like this is infrequent. I didn't get anything from 3/5 encounters last week and 2/5 encounters this week. How is that fair?
Also, those of you calling me "entitled", I am entitled. I finished the activity therefore I earned the rewards. If you disagree with that then why not just remove loot completely from every activity?
Edit: 250+ replies. Let's keep going until Bungie sees this
Gecko 77 made a very good point:
Players should always feel like they are progressing. They should come out of the raid atleast one light level higher than when they started.
triplearod also made another very good point:
The main difference in VoG and Crota's End is all weapons were exactly the same so you had to only get them once, low drop rate is fine in that instance. Armor may have different stat roll but the maximum light was always the same
Now were not only rolling against the chance it drops, but its Atk/Def values, and its perks. Im fine with the variance as it makes the raid more replayable, but something should drop even if it is a 310 hallowed pieces of gear. Maybe that gear will have stats & perks I like and is worth infusing up.
Edit: RIP my notifications tbh

Bumping again. Don't even want to play until it's resolved..

Instead of guaranteeing a drop from each boss, I'd prefer they guarantee the drops to be max light level. In normal, all gear should drop at 310 and hard should drop only 320 gear. I have had times where running VOG and doing the Templar only dropped shards and energy, but every time a weapon or piece of armor dropped it was the max level so why change it now?

Coming into Destiny from five years of playing World of Warcraft and playing Diablo 3 at launch, which was a colossally wretched loot experience, I have to wonder how many of people expecting 100% gear drops from raid bosses played a proper MMO before Destiny. Here's an example-I went, once, five months in WoW without evening seeing a chance at a weapon replacement on my main character. Raided every week, 10 and 25 man raids, more than one raid. Didn't even see a chance to get a weapon upgrade. Sure, it's frustrating to run a raid and not get any gear, but that's how raiding is in actual, proper MMOs. (Worse, until recently WoW didn't have personal loot, so even if your desired gear dropped, you were also at the mercy of whatever loot system your raid was running.) You run the raid constantly for the hopes of new gear to drop. It's the carrot to keep you going. I'll eventually raid (once I suck less at jumping) and I'll admit that if all I get is shards -the Mouldering shard system DOES seem broken and in need of work-I'll go "dammit" to myself and try again next time. That 's how raiding works.

Signed. If bungie is going to randomize gear stats and light levels, then drop rates need to be increased, or even 100%. If bungie wants to guarantee stats and light levels of gear, then the drop rate needs to be low. Im not sure anyone at Bungie has taken the time to do the math, cause its a nightmare the way the system is currently. Its an honest try to keep things random, but when you get no loot over and over, thats not very random, thats pretty consistent with crappy. Here is some math: Assume a 20% chance at a drop at each boss (sound right?), and the gear has an even chance at between 300 and 310 light level. Chances are 1 out of 10 that you will get an item that is 310. On average, if you have to get a drop 10 times to get a 310, but you only have a 20% chance at a drop, you will have to kill a boss 50 times ( on average ) in order to get that 310. Thats about 17 weeks of running 3 characters to get that max level item. Some people would get it quicker, others... Well... Never. And thats just to get 1. Dont even get me started on infusing >< But this isnt about infusing, its about drops from bosses.

Moldering shard may give you 2 normal mode items if you haven't done normal when you're doing hard mode. How is this fair?

Bump this needs attention. -blam!-ing hate being the one putting in the most work for no rewards.
-
Bump! Or for example getting a hunter cloak at 320 with 28 intellect, 18 discipline when a 302 drops with 30 intellect, 28 discipline. Umm what?!
-
Agreed. I don't care if the gear is the same light level as what I have as long as I get something. Anything. not just mouldering shards.
-
Haven't played KF yet but sounds like it's worse than getting nothing but shards in VOG and CE.

You have my vote/signature.

Edited by Turkasaurusrex: 10/29/2015 8:13:13 PMI would also say fix the Moldering Shard loot drop. Since it pulls from the other possible tables, it has a higher chance of rewarding you with 2 Moldering Shards or nothing at all, than it does anything else, because both Moldering Shards and "Nothing" are present in every loot table. Maybe implement a 20 Moldering Shard = Guaranteed NM drop of a piece of gear or weapon, while 40 Moldering Shards = Guaranteed HM drop of a piece of gear or weapon. I have 130 Moldering Shards and I don't need/want anything from NM, and they don't even work in HM.
