You're with your partner for X number of years and you both realise that you are ready to bring a child in to this world. You try for weeks/months until finally, conception has happened. You're both so happy but also simultaneously anxious & nervous.
Through the nine-month pregnancy:
- you nervously go to tests & screenings but thankfully, everything is okay,
- you create a baby room, purchasing everything required and decorating it ready for its arrival,
- you/she get(s) bigger and bigger, feeling the bump as the baby kicks and you both get all excited.
Finally, one day your/her waters-break and you/she get(s) rushed in to hospital. You can see the joy on your partner's face that today is the today you're both going to bring a child in to this world.
A 6-hour labour ordeal of drugs, pain, pushing and constant rhythmic breathing climaxes in you both seeing a small baby's head emerge. You look and hold each other, overwhelmed with joy and begin to weep, thanking the other.
After a few minutes you get to hold your magnificent creation; it's so small, delicate and fragile that you struggle to be believe it caused so much difficulty during the last 6-hours. It lets out a small whelp and you both "aww" at its cuteness. The nurses then take it away and you both sort yourselves out, ready to return home as a family, for the first time.
You watch your child grow and develop, saying its first words and taking its first steps. You throw birthday party after birthday party, inviting friends and family over to celebrate. You dress it up in its first school uniform and drop it off for its first day, teary-eyed with how much you'll miss your child, proud that it's taking these steps but also frightened that it's growing up too fast.
You watch children's shows & films with it and it takes in your music taste of which you're thrilled about. It gets its own personality and traits, guided by your own.
At 12, it starts to brings friends over (who you like) and goes over to theirs. You're proud of the upbringing you and your partner have given your child; it's social, respectful and a joy to be around.
One day around 6pm, you walk to its room to let it know that tea is nearly ready. You see your child sitting at the PC so you go over to see what the youth of today are doing with their free time online. One glance at the screen and you see it - you know it - all of your last 12-years' have done nothing for this child. Despair begins to set in as you take a closer look to be certain. You were correct - you see that it's playing -blam!-ing Minecraft. You have raised a kid who plays -blam!-ing Minecraft.
