I agree it is minor, but if it is completely meaningless, why not remove it?
This does quite literally and indisputably move down the "pay to win" path. If it is OK to pay to level your auto rifle faster, maybe it is OK to pay to level your subclass faster. If it is OK to pay to level your subclass faster, maybe it is OK to pay to go up levels faster. If it is OK to pay to go up levels faster, maybe it is OK to pay for better weapons or all-new subclass abilities others don't have.
Even if the Bungie employees behind this have a strong belief about keeping this stuff at a certain threshold, the money people are likely to keep looking for new revenue streams and pushing the limits just a little bit at a time until there are no limits.
It is easiest to defend a clear, obvious line than a fuzzy, opinion-based line.
"I oppose pay to win" is a clear, obvious line.
"It is just leveling an auto rifle" is a fuzzy, opinion-based line.

But I can already do that. Those are just some fun add ins that technically already exist in the game. You want to talk about leveling up quick. Just dump some motes and you're good. This is not pay to win and you all need to calm down and have fun.
-
This means you will use fewer motes, meaning you can use them elsewhere. Again, I agree it is minor, but it is pay to win in embryonic stage. It will get bigger if not stopped.
-
In embryonic stage? This is literally in no way pay to win. Everything is literally for masks and some reskinned consumable. This doesn't even qualify as minor. It's just a little fun event. They gave you the option to guy mask and fun little packages. It in no way affects your level. You just need to calm down along with everyone else that is losing their minds over this.

Edited by OurWildebeest: 10/27/2015 12:00:30 AMI guess you missed the part about upgrading weapons faster. See above.

But we always have in game items that do that!!! These are just things they threw in there. Are you people really that blind that you can't realize it's the same thing?

Edited by OurWildebeest: 10/27/2015 10:32:58 AMTake a deep breath and stop trying to win an argument. The logic here is undeniably clear. We have in-game items that are 320 light. So by your argument, buying 320 items with silver is OK since it also exists in-game. For that matter, buying Black Spindle or ToM would also be OK. For the third time, yes weapon upgrade buffs are minor. I am not comparing them in value with 320 items, Black Spindle or ToM. But once you can buy a minor buff, the precedent is there, and next step is buying a moderate buff, then a big buff. The line has to be drawn somewhere and if we all decide "oh, this buff is so minor it is OK, this buff is too big so I am against it," we will be divided without a clear voice. Pay to win needs to be throttled in its crib. If a weapon upgrade buff is trivial and unimportant, why not remove it from the silver item? Problem solved. Except it is important to Bungie, because it is a trial balloon for pay to win, which will create a new revenue stream for the company.

Bungie make an event which you don't even have to pay to participate in and all of a sudden it's pay to win lol
