Some friends and I were having a discussion last night regarding exotic drops.
They had been using exotic coins all evening to farm exotic engrams and after each drop they'd go to tower and decode whatever engrams they'd gotten.
Keep in mind they have all current available exotics. (No idea why they were farming engrams after having already unlocked them all. They even told me the same thing. Lol)
So I mentioned that they ought to vault the engrams and decode them a little ways down the road to see if they could easily obtain other exotics as the time gates are lifted.
My question to the community... could my suggestion to them work? Or do you think you'd need to get "new" exotic engrams for a chance at the time gated stuff?
Here's an example... If I went out and grabbed some exotic chest engrams today and put them into my vault. Then a month from now the time gate is lifted. Could those engrams in my vault decrypt into the new gear after the gate has been lifted?
The timespan being so short leads me to believe it's a possibility.
But everything in this game is so grindy I could also see them being reprogrammed to only drop from the "new" engrams from that point onward. (Obviously this is assuming the new gear isint only obtained from a specific event.)

Most time-gated Exotics seem to be acquired through quest lines and are not obtainable via engrams. Also, it is unclear whether or not engrams have a predetermined loot table. I would recommend just decoding them all now.

If anything, they're better of saving up ToC for future use. I'm not sure if newly introduced exotics can be acquired by old engrams

Engrams are predetermined. Do you can do that.
