What Fallout game should I buy first?
I've never played Fallout, and they're on sale over Steam.
Which one should I play first?

People saying FO3 don't get that nostalgia doesn't transfer to new players. FO:NV has more aspects akin to what FO4 will have, so it would be the better choice.

Fallout 1&2 are just so different from 3. 2 is a great game and really dark and gritty with no apologies made(jet anyone) it is top down Birdseye view. Now 3 is a good primer for what 4 will be like, regular first person and the type of world that follows that, but if Fallout 4 follows to closely on 3 you might want to do 2 just so you can experience the type of game your getting into vs playing the uglier version of it. I'm basing all of this on the assumption you are going to get 4. If not just get 3.

If your gonna get Fallout 4 (which you should) you should get either Fallout 3 or New Vegas, as 1 and 2 have much different play styles as their successors, as Bethesda bought the rights and changed the whole thing

Fallout New Vegas for Bethesda, since it was better than 3 and Fallout 1.

5 RepliesIf you pre-order 4, they give you 3 for free. So buy 3 if your gonna play 4. I also heard 2 and new Vegas are both really good, or really bad, depending on who answers. Lol! Hope that mess helps.

1 ReplyI'd recommend starting with Fallout 3. This will give you a good idea of how the various quest lines function, the leveling system works, and the overall atmosphere and pace of the Fallout world. That way, once 4 arrives, you'll have some good ideas on how you want your character to develop. Plus, have much more appreciation of how amazing Fallout 4 really is. Next stop, Boston..

2 RepliesTo be perfectly honest it really doesn't matter which Fallout you buy first, it's not like it's a consistent story, if i were you I'd just buy 4 first, it's going to be a much greater experience than Fallout 3 which even though was very fun, was also a very buggy, glitchy game and depending on your system had pretty bad frame rate drop. But it's your call, 3 and NV are definitely games to be played.

I'm not old enough to have played 1 or 2, so I can't really say for those, but I would really recommend 3. New Vegas was fun but there were quite a few bugs :L

A lot of people say fallout 3, and rightly so. I prefer new Vegas personally, though I recommend getting them both.
