Currently, patrolling is my least favorite activity that Destiny has to offer. Part of the reason for this is the lack of urgency that I feel while on patrol. I am so powerful at this point in the game that the AI baddies seem laughable at best.
The Dreadnaught patrol has made this a little better with it's higher difficulty, but still I can't help bit feel like the mode is lacking.
What could possibly make this mode more enticing for players like myself? Player dueling of course!
As I have been patrolling the worlds over the last year, I can't help but look at certain areas and think "this looks like an awesome place to have a firefight with other guardians."
So how would it work?
I open my roster and click on a players name from the list of players in my zone. They can be right next to me, or across the map. I choose the option to "request a duel."
Said player is then given a prompt to accept or decline the duel by holding a button.
If they accept, a timer appears on both players screens.
Suddenly, the players get the ability to damage each other. First to a set number of kills wins. Simple.
A few things:
-There would be an option in the menus to allow or block duel requests. This would allow you to avoid these notifications if you do not wish to be bothered.
-If a player declines the request, you must wait 1 minute to send them another request to avoid spam.
-Rewards for winning duels would only be granted for wins against guardians who are not in your fireteam. This would eliminate players farming rewards with friends. You can still duel players in your fireteam, but no rewards would be given.
-You can abandon a duel at any point by pulling out your ghost and holding a button.
What are your thoughts? What can you add to this idea?

I was just discussing this with a clanmate the other day. I would LOVE this to become a thing, would make waiting for public event's and such so much more entertaining.
