A masked man wielding "knife-like weapons" killed one teacher and wounded another as well as two boys at a school in western Sweden on Thursday before being shot by police.
Police said the suspect, a man in his 20s, was being treated for injuries at a hospital. The motive for the attack was not known.
"Young people have been attacked. It is terribly tragic," police spokesman Thomas Fuxborg told reporters.
The incident occurred at the Kronan school in Trollhattan, an industrial town of about 50,000 inhabitants north of Gothenburg. Prime Minister Stefan Lofven was expected to arrive at Trollhattan later on Thursday.
Photos by a local news agency showed several ambulances and police cars on the scene as emergency service staffers dealt with distraught adults and teenagers. A police cordon was marked out with white tape.
Police said they had responded to an emergency call saying a masked man with a sword was on the premises and that a person had been attacked at a cafeteria.
"Four persons have been taken to the hospital from the school," said Niklas Claesson, head of communications at NAL hospital in the town of Trollhattan.
Claesson said the attacker had used "knife-like weapons".
"The assailant is being treated for gunshot wounds. The other people treated at the hospital are young but not kids. Some of them have serious injuries and are being operated on. One person is deceased at the scene."

Sword-wielding man kills one in Swedish school attack - CNN
https://apple.news/AyKCsoRyTSL2X_zX9ms7icg
I've read some reports that one of the other victims died, brining the count to two total fatalities.
While it may be nowhere near the 15-20 seen in recent mass shootings in America, it still proves what the real underlying problem is: people.
Sure, guns can result in more fatalities. It's easier to kill at a distance with a gun. But that's a two way street. Guns can also take out an assailant quickly and from a distance, and take out multiple assailants if that's the case.
As for a blade, it's even easier to obtain a blade or sharp object anywhere then it is to obtain a gun in the US. And the fact that this blade-wielding scum injured others alongside killing one shows he could very well kill more than just one, like many would like to think would happen in the event of a knife attack in gun-free zones. And if this man couldn't have a blade, if he was so set on killing, he could have grabbed a large wrench, a hammer, a pipe, anything.
So, in my opinion, the underlying problem is people. We will never stop murder. We can strip away weapons but in the end people will kill people, and someone will always have weapons, and typically, in a weapon-free area, it's the wrong people or the people in power(which couldn't possibly go wrong).
EDIT 1:
And what's sad is that people will only use the deaths of those that benefit their agenda. People will only blame weapons when it benefits the agenda. They'll blame the person when they can't push their issue. That type of picking and choosing doesn't work.

Trollhattan? I thought that was here.

If they have guns legalized that wouldn't have happened.
murica out
OK we have all these conservative politicians saying its a mental health issue. Well where the hell is any legislation to help that? They can say its mental health all they want. But until they actually pass things to help improve our countries mental health I won't listen to a word they say.

I think things like this are really just a parenting issue. People will use whatever weapon they can find, but if they're brought up properly, they don't have the urge to attack people.
-
People do fvcked up things. They are to blame for their own actions. Knowing that some people are crazy, we have a responsibility to try to make sure they don't get their hands on anything that will enable them to cause carnage. We have to decide where to draw the line. We can't take knives off people, they are needed for too many applications. They are also easy to make yourself so they are hard control. Having said that, in the uk we have knife controls of a sort - under 16s can't buy a knife. We also haven't banned guns here, we just decided that they are so dangerous that very strict controls are merited. Currently America has laughably poor gun control. The answer isn't banning guns, but it certainly isn't a good idea to do what you're currently doing either.

Nerf blades they're too OP
-
Why don't people just run into schools with granades and make it easy
-
You can't kill 20 people in under 20 seconds with a knife though, can you?
-
He killed two, not 10+. If he had a gun he would have done way more damage
-
Ya know, I find it funny that Americans want gun bans. When I hear people support gun control, I tell them one thing.
Look at history's worst. Stalin. Hitler. Etc. they all started with "Just gun control". It's not about controlling the guns. It's about controlling a nation. Now, I'm not sayin Good Ol' Barry is gonna go all "SIEG HEIL!" on us. Not in the slightest. I'm saying put the wrong one in charge with said laws in place, we're all screwed.
Now, that's not to say I don't think gun laws shouldn't be stricter. I believe, in order to own a gun, you have to pass a mental exam of sorts. If they're at risk, no permit. But if they're sane? That's perfectly fine.
-
Wait, in Sweden if there's a killing the person is blamed, but in america the gun is blamed? What's with that?
-
[WEAPON] Control is not Crime Control. Please do not get them mixed up.
-
You won't even allow restrictions smh
-
The underlying problem is most definitely people. Anyone who denies that and thinks that banning guns is the whole answer is delusional. I really don't think this situation is comparable though.
-
I blame the people and the weapon. I blame a gun more than a knife because of the 2 deaths vs 20 deaths respectively. Improving gun safety, gun training/education, and gun ownership requirements universally will help mitigate gun violence. Of course, these won't solve the issue alone.

So we outlaw people?! Cmon! Who's with me! I say we take peoples right to be people away and replace them with robots!
# satire baby
Probably the last one

Bias poll is bias And you are not very bright. How many school attacks have happened is Sweden compared to the US in the last ten years? Hell, throw in the rest of Europe to try to get the numbers closer together. And look at the amount killed/wounded via these attacks compared to the US

Going by your comments, it's pretty obvious that you're rather pro gun. As such, it's pretty painful to see how a guy blasting others for using deaths to push an agenda is using a stabbing where two people died to push his own views against gun control, all while making a mockery out of it all by bringing up "blade control for Europe".
-
Its a lot easier to cause a mass murder with a gun than it is a knife. Any idiot can kill with a gun. A knife will always depend on who you use it against.
