Mysticism
The Origin of Mystic Powers
According to the tomes of the Pious Inquisition, once the universe reaches the end of its lifespan, all of the energy in it is expended in a singular blast so powerful that it tears the universe apart. Immediately afterwards, a new universe is born from a miniscule singularity formed by the energies expended in that blast. However, some of the energy is not used in the creation of the new universe, and is trapped in a timeless, spaceless dimension between the universes. Those gifted with the powers of Mysticism are able to tap into these forces and manipulate them to suit their will. With each new universe, the amount of that energy grows greater, and so does the power of Mystics.
The Pious Inquisition
A mysterious group of Warlocks gifted with magical powers, the Pious Inquisition fight an everlasting war in a distant galaxy. Every 2,000 years, the Inquisition arrives in the galaxy to recruit a small amount of gifted individuals for their cause. The extent of their powers is uncertain, but it is the general consensus that that are able to manipulate forces of the universe. These powers include the ability to manipulate and control matter, dark matter, and background radiation. By shifting amounts of these forces, they are able to control many parts of the universe.
The Korai
The Korai are a sect of the Pious Inquisition that split from the main order thousands of years ago. At the height of their power, they controlled much of what is now Republic space. Over the millennia, the Korai slowly lost their power, in both the political and mystical sense. They are now limited to but a few Korai hiding throughout the galaxy.
The Dead System
The Dead System is a solar system on the outer reaches of the galaxy. It is comprised of five rocky, barren planets orbiting a single star. It is widely believed that Mysticism played a rather large role in the death of this system’s sun, which is dying billions of years earlier than it should. There are various temples, shrines, and other religious structures scattered across the planets, leading some to believe the Pious Inquisition has its roots in the system. While the presence of the Inquisition would explain the mysterious phenomena, one fact that cannot be ignored is that some of the structures pre-date the universe by billions of years…
Political Factions
A History of Politics in the Galaxy
For thousands of years, the Galactic Republic ruled over the galaxy, keeping the peace and maintaining the balance of Mysticism. This age of prosperity has become known as the Republic Era. However, 4,000 years ago, the Republic collapsed, ending the Republic Era. For 3,000 years, there was no governing power in the system, and crime syndicates ruled. This is known as the Lawless Era. Late in the Lawless Era, one syndicate rose to power, eventually taking back most of Galactic space, and named themselves the New Galactic Republic. Now, the NGR rules Republic space, but has less tolerance for Mysticism.
The New Galactic Republic
The New Galactic Republic was a crime syndicate that rose to power in the late Lawless Era. The syndicate had roots stretching back to the height of the Galactic Republic, and they held onto a large portion of the power they held during the Republic Era after its fall. Now, they have taken back much of Republic space, and rule in much the same manner as their predecessor. Despite their possession of the majority of the Galactic Republic’s original territory, the NGR has had trouble keeping their power, and thus the Galaxy is rampant with smugglers and pirates. They have little tolerance for Mysticism, as they believe it was the cause of the fall of the Republic.
The Remnants
The Remnants are a sect of the New Galactic Republic that broke away when the NGR came into power. They did not agree with the main faction’s discrimination against Mystics, and thus they have gained favor with the Galaxy’s Mystic populus. They hope to restore the age of peace that the original Galactic Republic had brought about, even if it means an age of war.
The Mystic Majority
The faction known as the Mystic Majority believes that Mystics are the purest beings in the cosmos, and that all not gifted with their power must be cleansed. While they began as a small political party vying for the equal treatment of Mystics, their motives and methods have changed to the point where they are a radicalist faction. They will commit acts of terrorism in order to get their message across, and will stop at nothing until they achieve their goals.
Standard Ship Models
Starfighters
F1 Herring
The F1 Herring is a small Starfighter used mainly by the New Galactic Republic. It is equipped with 4 laser blasters and twin Omar-Ique Quantum Acceleration engines. The ship is designed to hold a single occupant and a maintenance droid, and has very little in the way of living quarters.
RH425 Hornet
The RH425 Hornet is a Starfighter that is slightly larger than the Herring. It is equipped with a rotating laser turret under the cockpit, dual laser cannons, and twin Omar-Ique Quantum Acceleration engines. It can comfortably hold 2 occupants, and has a very small, but usable living space. The Hornet is favored by small-time smugglers for its agility, but is not used by larger syndicates due to its lack of cargo space.
Gunships
8RV Hamishu Gunship
The 8RV Hamishu Gunship is a gunship commonly used by smugglers, pirates, and other like-minded criminals. It can comfortably hold 4 passengers, and has a respectable living space. It comes standard with 4 laser cannons, a rotating laser turret mounted on the top, and 3 Omar-Ique Quantum Acceleration engines. The Hamishu, while classified as a gunship, is not designed for military use. In fact, it has been a common debate among starship enthusiasts whether the Hamishu should even be classified as a gunship.
LX43 Kortik Gunship
The LX43 Kortik Gunship is a ship commonly used for troop transport by most of the Galaxy’s more prominent political factions. It is designed to hold a dozen troops in its main bay, and requires 2 pilots. It is equipped with four laser cannons, four laser blasters, two rotating laser turrets, one on each side of the cockpit, and dual Omar-Ique Quantum Acceleration engines. The Kortik is designed to be used by military personnel for troop transport, but the syndicates that are powerful enough to afford it make use of its large multi-purpose bay.
Weaponry
MH31 Blaster Pistol
The MH31 is a standard blaster pistol favored by many in the galaxy. It is most often used by smugglers as a sidearm, should a Republic search go bad. Its small nature makes it easy to hide on one’s person, allowing for criminals to keep their weapon on them at all times. While its damage is nothing remarkable, the MH31 has a high fire rate, especially among blaster pistols.
RX45 Blaster Rifle
The RX45 is a standard blaster rifle used by the New Galactic Republic, as well as some larger crime syndicates. While designed for standard battlefield encounters, it can work at shorter and longer ranges than initially intended. It can come equipped with a variety of sights and scopes, but the New Galactic Republic prefers their RX45s to be equipped with holo-projection sights. Crime syndicates, on the other hand, prefer a standard scope.
LV328 Laser Sniper
Although it is known to be used by the NGR’s snipers, the LV328 was most famously used by the bounty hunter A’ish Suul (Eesh-ah Soal). It comes standard with a scope that can be adjusted to zoom in, zoom out, and even mark a target. Being a sniper rifle, its range is remarkable, and makes it ideal for the aspiring assassin.
Locations
Monarsky Station
Nicknamed “Republic City” by many in the galaxy, Monarsky Station is a key trading hub that the New Galactic Republic uses to hold a presence in the outer territories. It is a multi-level space station located at an intersection of multiple high-traffic hyperspace routes, and is home to traders, merchants, and scum alike.
Moraan
Moraan is a mining world located in the Outer Territories. Moraan is the newest planet in its system, and thus its surface is highly volcanic and covered in seas of lava. One of the larger Inner Territory corporations had set up mining activities on the planet, but were forced out due to the dangerous conditions. Now, the mining platforms remain dormant, floating a few hundred feet above the planet’s surface. Moraan is often used as a hideout for criminals, as few bounty hunters or Republic soldiers would dare go there.
