You are aware that the traveler actually was a wuss and was trying to leave? The traveler is still on earth because Rasputin shot him down.
The traveler gives races golden ages, then runs when the darkness gets too close (same with what happened to the Fallen).

A lot of the Grimoire Cards are left over from the old story. What do you suppose is Rasputin's reason for shooting him down? It couldn't be an error, since Rasputin forced right pass the part of his coding that was trying to stop him. Seeing as how what the Traveler does (with races) it can be heavily implied that Rasputin shot him down for trying to run (what he did to the Fallen).
