Didn't force you. Only if you wanted the gun...you could choose not to have the gun and keep your faction.
But totally agree with your other points.

I meant if you wanted the gun, you were forced to do it. I rather think the game would suffer if bungie dragged us kicking and screaming to be thrown at Lakshmi's cold robotic feet.
