It's not hard. I literally just stood at the top basically where you spawn in and killed him from there. The adds pretty much don't even come up there aside from a random Minotaur or two who go down quick if you have an exotic sword. I did it myself earlier today.

I was going about it the wrong way ig. I couldn't see him unless I went down to the middle ground. Although I can confirm that if you have not found the ghost memories and you join the foreteam to kill him you still get the cult ghost.
