For fark sakes.
Who thought this was a good idea? Was it the same guy that sat in on a meeting and thought "lawl, now wait a week" was a great idea for a quest step? Was he drunk? Are you sure? Did you check? You should probably go check. He could be passed out with his hand stuck in the vending machine and require emergency assistance.
Seriously though, its irritating and a real slap in the face after the amount of effort people put into finding and completing these exotics quests. Its like getting grounded for a week after coming home with a straight A report card.
( No really though, go check the vending machines just to be safe ).

For fark sakes 2.0
I'm not sure why people are talking about RNGesus or vanilla Destiny. This isn't a binary problem with only two solutions. Exotic quest lines aren't going to vanish because the requirement to sit on your ass for a week or wait for a certain quest on a certain day were removed. I'm not not sure why people think being drip fed existing content makes the game better or more "fair" or whatever.
It would be a different story if we were talking about new content being created and added on a semi regular basis. But I'm referring to existing content we already knew about weeks in advance. Which was not available at release and/or which Bungie allowed us to run around trying to find without telling us it was impossible. Bungie does have the ability to keep things out of the database away from our prying eyes as well as the ability to not hype something a month before release without mentioning the little problem that it wouldn't be available at release.
Let me bullet point this:
1. Showing players things they can't have without telling them they can't have it = BAD.
2. Forcing players to wait and watch for a specific day / time window ( people have lives you know ) to obtain something or miss out = BAD.
3. Forcing players to wait for a week or two at random in the middle of a quest line for no reason whatsoever = BAD.
At no point did I suggest we should all go back to chasing the White Whale, er, Gally as the ideal exotic solution. ( and you guys do remember there were exotic quests before TTK, right? )
The ideal exotic solution would be for exotics to be a balanced mixture of engrams, quest lines and challenges ( such as Black Spindle. ) without the pointlessly arbitrary stop gaps of forced waiting periods or limited time windows. Those serve no purpose at all to the players. They may serve a purpose to Bungie or Activision ( Stretching limited available content, trying to finish content that they should have had ready at release, etc ) but that is not in our interest. That's in their interest.
The game should be in the player's interest. We're the ones who play it, support it and paid for it.
( Really though, did you check the vending machines yet? I'm getting worried. )

Yea stop it! Let's go back to everyone praying to RNGEESUS for 6 months to get that exotic everyone demands you have to join their fire team, or the one that is boss in crucible! Because it was so much better when people claimed they deserved and earned theirs just because they got lucky earlier. Screw this guaranteed way to get the exotics after just a few weeks by actually having to do something other than cross your fingers.
just in case you couldn't tell, this is sarcasm.
Halo 5 won't timegate :)
-
I love this new way. It gives player incentives to be on certain day to get what you want instead of being handed you're new exotic ala Xur.
-
Missed both times black spindle was available and now this one as well
-
There isn't any excitement. You know what's going to happen and what you're going to get and after the 3 weeks of waiting is over you're over it and just want your damn exotic.
-
Honestly, timegating is a valid, and with this community, necessary choice. If everything was available at the start then EASILY everyone would have had everything found. If they are RNG exotics people would complain about drops as usual. If they were questlines they would all be done and people would be complaining about lack of content etc. If they choose to trickle things out to keep the game interesting then I thank them for doing so, gives something to look forward to. There are others out there and things we haven't found that will progress further whenever it's time, but we need to start the process first. If noone had found those ghosts noone would know about the rifle coming out this week, what are we missing? Who knows, find out.
-
they are just trying to make game seem like it's fun and it's just wait time, make you play a little longer terrible practice
-
It's a pretty irritating way of releasing gear imo. Makes obtaining some pieces difficult for people who have other obligations. I am currently on a 24 hour shift (paramedic)...and will probably be again the next time the quest drops. Just wish they would have figured out a better way to keep people interested.

Edited by Xendrie: 10/21/2015 8:50:38 AMtime gating without any possibility of affecting it and not adding anything fun to the game Is just a bad way to add fake longlivity to the game. If you wanna see a good time gating, everyone who played World of Warfcraft back in the days most likely remember the AQ event. that's a good way to add time gated events/quests. not just "do this and wait for it to magically appear one day". there is waaaay to much time gated shit in TTK. the first curse for example. wait X amount of weeks to be able to reach rank to 5. do 1 quest. wait 1 week. do another quest. wait another week. yay!
-
It's the fault of all the stupid idiots who complained when the game first came out because they had nothing to do
-
Totally agree OP the News section in here a few weeks back stated ( there are many more secrets out there in the gameworld for us to go and find ) you have found a couple the Black spindle and ToM now get searching.(something along those lines) Now that to me sounds like there are weapons/exotics out there for us to get together to go and find (FOR OURSELVES) ie: team up etc etc etc. but sadly so far the Sleeper and now Strangers rifle (no time to Explain) have been Time gated held back from us until it's decided to be released. The Sleeper as a quest was disappointing at best just do a few warsat defends then do the S.A.B.E.R strike (Boolean Gemini ) was harder and took longer to get. As for this gun No time to Explain i though being the strangers rifle we would have to go looking for clues in the places like Venus Academy where we first met her face to face (the stranger) or find gun parts to upgrade the original strangers rifle that gives random associated quests. ( i know thats a personal thing and i'm assuming) I like having and getting these guns but timed/gated released kinda dumbs it down. we have a half decent sized game world with many passages/doors/caves etc etc etc just hide some of the Exotics in clues/parts or other ways for US as a community and friends to go looking/searching for putting clues up in the forum and stuff make these exotics community events.
-
Well people complained about other players not "earning" exotics, so now they have a way to earn them.
-
i like it.
-
Agree it is shit. But i think its helping me get over destiny a bit. Most of year 1 i was a bit obsessive about destiny and exotics i didnt have. Now there are so many exotics i dont have because they are all in shitty quests i cant be bothered to learn about or do, it helps me care a bit less!
-
I like all the new exotic quests and stuff. Beats just blindly doing NF/Raids to get random random stuff once a week... Plus it makes you want to jump on every day to see what's up...
-
I want time gated exotics. It gives the game a new dynamic. Every other game is linear, go here get this do that then you have it. This is more of a when this happens do this or that and then wait for this and then that and it's just much more interactive. They definitely planned that well.
-
It's worse that they are 290 and we have to farm every time we get one to infuse them to competitive light levels,
-
but if they do that they would actually have to put large amounts of content into the game :00000 who would want that?!!?
-
Same person who made the serving size of ice cream a half a cup. Who the hell only eats half a cup of ice cream?
-
I will record everything!
-
Its Bungie method of keeping their fan base alive. The alternative would be to add more content but why would they do that?
-
Run faster.
-
I'm okay with secret daily quest. But this whole wait a week for weapons is bullshit.
-
Lol @ complaining about them giving us new quests and exotics to uncover. If you want everything day 1, go play a pay to win mmo and spend your cash
-
Edited by SkinlessGorgon: 10/21/2015 8:51:46 AMSo you would rather burn through all the content in a month, then complain that there is nothing else to do in the game? I would rather have a new quest every week or 2, or a new strike once a month than have a sub standard, expensive DLC drop that has been seen to fragment the comminuty. Its called drip-fed, or trickled content
-
Don't worry, doubt there are any more.
