Who thought this was a good idea? Was it the same guy that sat in on a meeting and thought "lawl, now wait a week" was a great idea for a quest step? Was he drunk? Are you sure? Did you check? You should probably go check. He could be passed out with his hand stuck in the vending machine and require emergency assistance.
Seriously though, its irritating and a real slap in the face after the amount of effort people put into finding and completing these exotics quests. Its like getting grounded for a week after coming home with a straight A report card.
( No really though, go check the vending machines just to be safe ).

I'm not sure why people are talking about RNGesus or vanilla Destiny. This isn't a binary problem with only two solutions. Exotic quest lines aren't going to vanish because the requirement to sit on your ass for a week or wait for a certain quest on a certain day were removed. I'm not not sure why people think being drip fed existing content makes the game better or more "fair" or whatever.
It would be a different story if we were talking about new content being created and added on a semi regular basis. But I'm referring to existing content we already knew about weeks in advance. Which was not available at release and/or which Bungie allowed us to run around trying to find without telling us it was impossible. Bungie does have the ability to keep things out of the database away from our prying eyes as well as the ability to not hype something a month before release without mentioning the little problem that it wouldn't be available at release.
Let me bullet point this:
1. Showing players things they can't have without telling them they can't have it = BAD.
2. Forcing players to wait and watch for a specific day / time window ( people have lives you know ) to obtain something or miss out = BAD.
3. Forcing players to wait for a week or two at random in the middle of a quest line for no reason whatsoever = BAD.
At no point did I suggest we should all go back to chasing the White Whale, er, Gally as the ideal exotic solution. ( and you guys do remember there were exotic quests before TTK, right? )
The ideal exotic solution would be for exotics to be a balanced mixture of engrams, quest lines and challenges ( such as Black Spindle. ) without the pointlessly arbitrary stop gaps of forced waiting periods or limited time windows. Those serve no purpose at all to the players. They may serve a purpose to Bungie or Activision ( Stretching limited available content, trying to finish content that they should have had ready at release, etc ) but that is not in our interest. That's in their interest.
The game should be in the player's interest. We're the ones who play it, support it and paid for it.
( Really though, did you check the vending machines yet? I'm getting worried. )

Time-gating is fine, but once a quest is unlocked it should stay unlocked and you should be able to do it at any time. Personally, I work, have a family and can only play at certain times. I can not drop what I am doing to play a mission just because it randomly decided to activate and is gone. That is as bad as RNG. There is a good change that I could miss a quest line every time it opens up if it is not the weekend. I do not mind the slow leak of new content just dont take it away and if you are going to take it away let us know exactly when it will be back. I know Xur is only here from Friday - Saturday. I can work around that because it is consistent. I know that Trials is only the weekend. Iron banner is announced in advance so you know when it is coming.
-
The person who thought the of the step in some of the exotic weapons quests that don't allow you to continue until the next Arms Day is a good idea is a clown.
-
Some are OK, others aren't. I think the Black Spindle is a good application of the time gate. It is a special event that has no prerequisites. Run it and go. No Time to Explain and Sleeper Simulant need to explain the prerequisites when they proc. It is wrong to not explain to people why they didn't get the quest. Sleeper Simulant 1 day wait is OK. The First Curse 2 armsday wait is nonsensical.
-
I agree.. The quests are pretty thrown together too. Whoever was in charge had a low budget and not a lot of time. They need to be more creative next time.
-
Stop. Complaining. About. Bungie. Trying. To. Preserve. The. Longevity. Of. Destiny.
-
It's weird people think time gating is ok.
-
You could say they were.... lost in time. *puts on sunglasses*
-
Did someone say, [Thunderfury, Blessed Blade of the Windseeker]?!
-
I don't mind time gating. Gives me something to look forward to when I'm bored during my 1 hour lunch. I find out the forum is blowing up about something new to do as suddenly I like playing even a little bit more. Keeps me interested longer and I don't see it as that big of a problem. Sure it bothers me a little knowing I have to wait but it's nothing new. I wait for things all of the time during life.
-
Why are so many people saying 'no time to explain' was time gated? You run the paradox mission when it's the daily, find a secret area, get a ghost, talk to Lakshmi and she gives you a quest for 'no time to explain' 'First curse' Reach rank 5 with the gunsmith Sleeper simulant is the only exotic that was time gated...any others haven't been discovered yet
-
I think you left your patience at home, you don't need everything immediately. Just play the game.
-
Heh if you haven't figure out why bungie does this then you never will. No amount of complaining will change it.
-
I am fine with them slowly releasing weapons but the waiting a week for some quests is kinda silly. I complete 15 minutes of work and have to wait a week for the next step.
-
I don't mind the ones that make you wait for a certain day. It's the ones that pop with no way of you knowing unless you live on this forum, youtube or twitter.
-
better than finding a lfg group at gorgon to hope u get a exotic only to find out you got shards x 3 and need to wait a week to try again....months go by and you still suffer while everyone shoots Crota with gallys. no no let's go back to worthless rng. I prefer this way so at least you know when the time comes u actually have the opportunity to get it
-
We're not getting younger, each passing week our reflexes grow weaker.
-
I think it's a great idea.
-
It has kind of been that way from the start, has it not? Play all your activities, then wait till next Tuesday to be able to get rewards again.
-
I don't mind time-gating, just don't force me to play Destiny on a particular day to get a particular weapon
-
Agreed. Introducing the whole 'wait for the next reset' or next time this comes up as the daily or even waiting until bungie decides to throw a switch, is the most obvious padding I have ever come across in a video game.

Edited by Nephilim: 10/22/2015 6:03:23 AMIf they didnt do this it would show how much content we paid for which is...not much. So they make us wait 3-4 weeks for weapons that will probably suck to be honest. If they let all the quests out on the day ttk came out, im pretty sure 70% of us would have done everything there is to do. Just my personal opinion.

What I hate the most is every exotic that is time gated or done through a quest: does not drop in the normal game for you. At no point can you do the raid, three of coins, or nightfall and actually get Boolean, Tlaloc, Fabian, Ace, Sleeper. So anyone who doesn't spend the time for 3-4 weeks on average of getting the necessary rep in a faction is completely denied these exotics. There's no more battling through the muck and mud to get that heroic drop that makes everything worth it. Both V.o.G and Crota had serious chances to drop exotics and now we have captain asshole the raid where "LMAO only shards" exists. Even Xur is worse then he was previously. Now even he has a specific loot table that can't get you everything as well. They took a loot based game and then took the chance to drop the "rarest" weapons in the game away. At this point I'm just doing the raid because it is the sole provider off 300+ weapons and armor (even then the shittiest drops on earth). I slogged through V.o.G no matter the team to get the Vex and exotic chest because I knew they actually dropped. King's fall is like "meh" because you don't get anything.
-
how else will they keep us playing?
-
The daily quest window of opportunity are 1 thing, but waiting a week for no reason because of a role-playing space delivery is lame sauce on your chin.
-
Who cares?

Halo 5 will be out soon, so we can forget this ever existed.
