Old threads should not be able to be necro bumped and suddenly reappear on the list of Latest topics. This 'forum abuse' has been happening recently with many old threads and it's hella annoying. Clearly there's children with nothing better to do than screw round on the forum here. Could you perhaps work out if a reply is occurring beyond say 3 months of the last activity on a thread, and remove it from the latest links? For those that want to read and contribute to old posts perhaps we can have an Archive or Necro'd filter, which works similar to the Latest, Trending ones.
