This week has been a bit of a hassle for me, but a good one. For the Canadians (and perhaps a few other commonwealth counties) it was our Thanksgiving. I do hope everyone enjoyed theirs. Don't worry, Americans, you'll get your patriotic freedom turkey soon.
For the community, though, it's been a very good week. However, I'm not going to get to that just yet. First, I wanted to introduce you to your Bungie Community Historian, a title that is entirely made up but kind of cool. Cue, Rollin:
Hey, all! My name is Rollin and from here on out you may refer to me as the Historian (name pending). I’ll be delivering healthy helpings of Bungie and Bungie Community lore straight to your eye balls, hence forth, so buckle up and get ready to learn (but, you know, in a fun way).
Arguably, the best game Bungie has(n’t) made is Pimps At Sea, which was announced in 2001. Centring around a pimp/pirate protagonist, the game is a combination of action and real-time strategy with a dazzlingly complex economic system and a vast array of customization options, including the option to create custom prostitutes from characters found in other games. In 2007 Bungie announced the Pimps At Sea movie which was slated to release in 2008.
Editor's note: NSFW and expected to be rated M and R, respectively.
While Bungie’s promises fell short, in 2004, Bungie.net users SS_Zag1, Prometheus25, and Ash55 released the Pimps at Sea RPG. Using members and elements from the Bungie.net community, the games was received as a phenomenal success and was pinned to the top of the forums.
Rumours of a new Pimps At Sea RPG have circulated…

Yes, we're that weird. Onto what's happened this week.
As I promised before, I am going to be focusing in on Bungie.net the most, but I'll also be reaching out to reddit, YouTube, and even Twitch since the Destiny community has grown to a colossal scale.

Art and Stuff is running an Inktober art contest with some lovely prizes. Art and Stuff has a wonderful history of support community artists and holding some of the best contest we've seen. I highly recommend that people not only check it out, but try their hand at submitting their creations in relevant contests or even just to get feedback from likeminded people. You don't have to be a modern Leonardo or Michelangelo to submit. It's all for fun!
The Community Carnage is hosting one of their weekly gamenights! If you're reading this on the Friday it goes up, it might not be too late to sign up and share lead in the Crucible. Don't worry if you miss this one. You can either watch the livesteams or sign up for next week's.
However, that's not the only thing the Community Carnage is doing. Prometheus is holding a charity event called the Community Charity Brawl. The event is through the organisation Child's Play, a group dedicated to helping children in hospitals and domestic abuse shelters to have better lives filled with fun. I highly suggest you check it out and lend a hand if you're able to, even just by spreading the word.
This community, the Bungie/Bungie.net community to be specific, is not just a home to Guardians, it's also a home to Spartans and space explorers and Assassins and so on. The ED Archive, a group dedicated to Elite Dangerous here on Bungie.net, is definitely worth checking out if you're curious about the game, new to it, or a veteran privateer. They're looking to help out both new and old gamers with the current iteration of Elite Dangerous, so give it a go if you like beautiful space-flight simulators.
Finally, here's a little more on other gamenights:

Well, it's very clear that Destiny is a major part of our community and I welcome that with open arms. As a Mentor, I can't give you answers on the Secrets of Destiny, but I can direct you to people who are trying to figure them out. What? Are you expecting me to divulge some secret information about something you don't know? Why would I do that when DeeJ is selling Year 2 Gjallarhorns after hijacking Tess's outpost?! This is what happens when you send a Gunslinger west: They become a Warlock with a rocket launcher.
Now, I am familiar with how the Destiny community is strongly desiring competitive multiplayer that doesn't including sweating (or was it sweaties?). I'd like to bring you back to the roots of true competitive multiplayer. You are not ready. You are not good enough. I'm sorry, but you are not...
BUNGIE ULTIMATE NINJA GAMING LEAGUE...EXTREME.
That's right. That's the true form of competitive multiplayer. Equipment changes everything. Well, mostly just the gravity lift.
All joking aside, some of you have great ideas which go unheard in the comments of other threads. I highly suggest you make a thread in the Feedback section with any of your ideas on how to change, improve, or rework the game.
We all know reddit has a massive Destiny fanbase. They tend to do some crazy stuff with massive calculations, tons of field testing, or amazing editing to create their content. This is not an example of any of those. It's the emote that so many of you want.

All in all, it's been a pretty great week. People are loving TTK, Recon broke (again), and I've managed to do this two weeks in a row! Trust me, that's a big achievement for me. However, I would like to know something. This isn't going to be your weekly question, but rather something for all of you to answer. What do you want to see in these updates? What would keep you coming back for more? I want this to be more than just a synopsis of the week, but also a way for your questions to be answered and your concerns addressed. Sound off below on your thoughts. I want your feedback, too, not just Bungie.
Questions of the Week:
Newbies: Why did you come to Bungie.net and why did you stay?
Ancients: Who has been SYMSNNO? Is she a classy lady?
-
Edited by Caggus: 10/19/2015 11:35:22 AMAmazing post, good work. I came to bnet after hearing about clans when I was playing Destiny. As for me staying on bnet would probably be groups. When I first came here, I'd say I was a bad user. A few days later I stumbled on groups, the people in those groups are probably what makes me stay.

Edited by King Stark: 10/22/2015 10:05:54 AM
Why did you come to Bungie.net and why did you stay?
I suppose I came for Destiny but I stayed for Bungie. It's the people on here that make this site great. People like Burn and Progo that really care about the Bungie community. If only more were like them.
-
Beautifully done.
-
How about you guys interview a random person or group each week?
-
I'd honestly like more of that Rollin character. He's so dreamy.

Awesome update! This updates are my favourite way to not work at my job and pretend I'm doing some important business work on my phone. I like the emote you've linked. One that I would personally love to see would be a Play Dead emote. I've seen some great death animations from the physics engine (bad wth names if that's incorrect). I think it would be awesome to get a random death by misadventure emote. Maybe just me though. Speaking of Eververse and be charity event you linked, what do you think of this. (I've hid it in a spoiler so I can remove if you wish)
(If this isn't the right place for it I'm sorry I can remove it). I'd like to see some more Bungie / Destiny charity events happening. With possible unique Eververse items / silver being the incentives for users to donate. Many people do enjoy donating for the purpose of donating to a good cause. But many may also want the extra incentives to push them to do so. From a marketing point of view, (I think) it would be a great incentive for users to donate. They would feel like they would be saving other 'real' money by donating to a good cause and could purchase something they like from Eververse. Having a user able to choose their reward could be helpful to bring in more donations. Again, just my opinion on what could help. I'm not quite the wordsmith that many of the ninjas are but I did my best to make this as coherent as possible
What would I like to see? A community choice crucible kill of the week? I know the BWU does occasionally include these, but many are montages and such. I like to see some "holy crap how was that even possible" kills or funny moments that aren't always in the BWU. Why brings me to Bungie.net? #help. I spend all my time there. I love the community that is in the help forums. There are a ton of users who just enjoy helping because it's a great feeling to do so. This is what makes a community great IMO. Now they've got me hooked. #helpishome Anywho, I've rambled enough. Keep up the great work!

I enjoyed the sending a "gunslinger west" reference.
-
Great post. I would like to see group interviews but not necessarily Destiny groups; Cozmo already does enough of those.
-
Hey could you help me get a raid team together for a French gamer on ps4 I don't want a langue barrier to stop him from having the full experience.

Edited by Mechetti: 10/16/2015 9:15:07 PMI heard that Mechetti guy never fails to satisfy. Your mom, that is.
Interested in learning about other aspects of Bungie & Bungie.net history? Leave a comment below with what you’d like to know, and I’ll see you all next week.
How did the Dragons movement start? And how did said movement pressure Bungie into actually putting Dragons/Ahamkara into the Destiny lore? Sorry, I'm new here.

Love the update, Char. I was thinking about this since yesterday and I was reminded of the idea of maybe having an activity to do at the end of these. Specifically, I was thinking of taking a page out of The Bathroom Reader and creating crossword puzzles of something each week. Thoughts, community/Char?
-
These brands never give you enough birds with arms...
-
Great weekly update Char! I really like the formula, especially Rollin's Bungie/Bungie.net history section. Helps keep some of the old culture/jokes alive.
-
How interesting.

I wish the random phrases at the top still existed. Maybe they do, haven't been on the desktop site for some time.

Edited by xi_GoinHam: 10/16/2015 5:47:05 PMMy answer for the newbie question: I came here for lfg originally. A buddy showed me the app and told me I could find raid people on it. It was a huge step up from phaze. Then a month or two later I had a minor issue with the game, and my buddy directed me to #Help. I posted an was immediately helped by a mentor named Anidien. I browsed through the feed and saw many of the issues were simple connection problems. I answered a few here and there for a while until I lost my job and had alot of free time on my hands. At that point I got much more invested in the community and #Help more specifically. Then from there on, I've been around here constantly. If you need any help feel free to pm me.
Also, great post Felix!
bad thing is ive looked at 90% of these posts lol
