Also a sub-note to the people who don't like the cards as a source of story.
Not promoting the system or agreeing with it here. Just my thoughts on it.
In the game you wake up after hundreds of years being dead "you're going to see some things you won't understand". So in that situation, in real life, you wouldn't have a clear history book to read from to find out what happened. Most records were lost with the collapse. You pick up pieces (g-cards) here and there in your travels that provide a small portion of history.
The point of if all being accessed through the app and online is to give the feel of a virtual database where you can also connect with other gaurdians who are scattered everywhere (forums).
In that type of future you would think a technology of that sort would exist anyway though directly expressed in the game.
I, personally, don't like having to use my phone to read little quips of history that I have to piece together myself. I think there should definitely be a library/archive IN-GAME to visit. There should be a custodian there that will, not unlike the cryptarch, take the cards you have found/earned and piece then together for you and give you an in-game book to read that will explain a particular point in time, the history of a location, or an actual layout of how the battle of the twilight gap went. And they will be archived as such (ex. Title: The History of The Vault of Glass).
There could be, maybe not a quest but, at least something that says, "collect 50 grimwoire from killing fallen vandals in the cosmodrome.". Or, "collect all cards from the crota's end raid". To get each book.
That way people have more to play for rather than just grinding for gear. You will be grinding for knowledge and actual story.
Just my thoughts. Sorry it went a little long for those of who don't read long posts. But if you do read then I think you'll like my idea if you stick around.
