So, im sure youve all seen/heard it. The idea, or the list of the community ideas bungie hopes to implement, and particularly the Cosmetic Slot/Transmogrification idea. And i wish to retouch on such an idea.
For anyone who doesnt know the difference,
Cosmetic Slot: Literally a second slot of each slot that overwrites the model image, but gives no stats.
Transmogrification: Replacing the model of an item as the other item, while keeping the original stats/perks.
(pretty much, one is quick and easy but requires a second slot, the other is slow and takes more effort each time you want to change, but only needs one slot)
Now, i apologise if anyone has already mentioned any of these, because ive not really looked around and ive had these ideas and thoughts rolling around my head since the whole idea of the Cosmetic slots were first suggested, however (as i will soon explain) TTK gave me an incentive to finally voice them.
New Stats, Less choice.
Now, what i mean by this is that with the addition of stats to the Class Items and Ghosts, we no longer have as much of a choice as to how we want to look when it comes to those items. While the ghost never really had a big selection (Frontier Shell, and that other one we werent meant to have), the class items had a pretty damn big selection even before TTK added more to the mix. But the issue is that now with the stats there, ALL the year 1 class items have become not an option for current content (because youd obviously lose a ton of light). Having a cosmetic slot would fix such an issue and give people any interest in the older items.... which brings me to my next point
Echoes of the past
The biggest gripe that I, and many others, had prior to the TTK was when we found out that our gear was being, to put simply, "The Dark Below'd". Basically, all our hard earned gear was rendered useless. But im not here to complain about that, because ive gotten over it. Something many of us had an even bigger issue with as a result of this, was how the old content became 99% useless as a result of TTK. Only benefit to going back to it was the statless items, like Sparrow/Emblem/Shader/Grimoire.
IF we added cosmetic slots then suddenly all that old obsolete content would become somewhat relevant again! Not nearly to the extent it used to be, with Fatebringer and Vex being two of the more coveted items, but rather people would have a reason to go back and get those armor sets and class items. We could look how we wanted to once more, not be forced to wear what we find ugly due to the stats saying we must. It would make the old content feel far less of a waste of our hard drive, thats for sure.
Which is why, Bungie, i request with my utmost sincerity, PLEASE incorporate this at some point during Year 2. It would mean the world to a lot of us, and it would help with your games longevity to an extent as well.
