Well, Shaxx is fond of saying that you can learn everything you need to know about a Guardian, good and bad, by facing them in the Crucible. Maybe the same logic applies to Oryx's Worm. As he fights, he learns, and as he kills, he grows stronger through Sword Logic, enabling him to learn about even greater enemies on the field of battle.
