My favorite part of all of this was the 11 rounds/ten years relationship. That's a very clever easter egg, if they did it on purpose. :D The only point I would correct you on is that Oryx's Worm does not feed on bloodshed. It feeds on Exploration and Inquiry. He changed his name to reflect what he wanted to become, and the Worm feeds on what you are. Just as Xi Ro had to feed it by testing his Strength, and Sathona by increasing her Cunning. This makes for another interesting point, though. If the Worm is the heart of the Touch of Malice, then it is feeding on what we are, which is Weapons against the Darkness. It feeds on our strength, and its hunger will kill us if we don't defeat minions of the Darkness quickly enough. Food for thought!

  • Thanks for the feedback! I thought the same as well about what Oryx's Worm feeds on, but Calcified Fragment: Carved in Ruin says that after the death of Akka, the siblings fed on Killing instead of their individual traits. This is why they had to seperate because before they could each take what they needed from their individual Worm, but after they decided on a tribute flow their Worms all fed on the same thing.

  • Wait! Found a thing. XL: An Emperor For All Outcomes "Meanwhile, Oryx brooded on the Vex. 'I've met a worthy rival,' he said. 'They want to exist forever, just as I do. But I don't understand them.' At this his worm began to chew on him, for he was bound to understand." Essential proof that post-Akka, Oryx was still bound to explore and understand by his Worm.

  • So does that mean that killing also qualifies as exploring and understanding? It must!

  • Well, Shaxx is fond of saying that you can learn everything you need to know about a Guardian, good and bad, by facing them in the Crucible. Maybe the same logic applies to Oryx's Worm. As he fights, he learns, and as he kills, he grows stronger through Sword Logic, enabling him to learn about even greater enemies on the field of battle.

  • Hmmm, after re-reading, I think I might have to agree, but only maybe. Oryx and his siblings made a deal with very specific terms, and those terms never changed. However, if Akka was in charge, when we was broken by Oryx to gain the Tablets of Ruin, then maybe the terms changed. Or, alternatively, Oryx changed the deal when he spoke with the Darkness itself during his long retreat in the Deep. The Worms gave him some of their power initially, which came from the Darkness, but maybe Oryx just bypassed that and made a better bargain with the source itself. In any case, that doesn't quite satisfy my curiosity regarding the Books of Sorrow yet, as there is more I've probably missed on my first pass, and will need to coalesce in a second and third reading.
